Tank's story...
"Tank" was found hanging around a friend's house and had been there for a few days. He was shy, but not agressive. It only took about 45 minutes and a few thrown treats for him to trust me enough to come along with me, and although he didn't jump into the car, he walked well on a leash the many blocks to my house. He does now ride in the car without any problem. He stays in a pen in the yard with several walks during the day (so far he doesn't want to do his business in his own living area). He sleeps in the house at night, (I'll admit, mostly on the foot of our bed). We don't know if he's truly housebroken, as we haven't left him loose or unsupervised yet, but he doesn't have any problem sleeping through the night with no accidents. He's about 2 years old, and weighs about 65-70 lbs. Tank came to us with heartworms and had his first treatment on April 3rd. He has 2 more treatments, then he will be neutered. Tank talks to us when he is especially happy, but he doesn't bark at anything or anyone that goes by. He seems very "laid back" but loves attention. He seems to know the commands "Sit" and "Lie Down", almost every time you ask. He's a very strong dog, but also seems very gentle around humans. He did get out of our pen after a couple of days, but stayed around and came right to me when I called him. My husband rewired the area he had worked on, and he hasn't gotten loose again. You would need a secure fence. If you're interested in meeting Tank, email me at lanacagle@gmail.com
Our mission is to support and enhance the services provided by the Georgetown Animal Shelter and other local organizations dedicated to the welfare of animals.
We will: Raise awareness of the shelter through public education. Increase volunteer participation and fund raising activities. Be advocates of animal welfare in the community. Participate in shelter activities that result in the placement of companion animals in loving, responsible homes. Campaign for free/low cost spay/neuter clinics. Work toward the day when no healthy animal is killed.
We are an organization of volunteers from all walks of life, united by one common goal… the welfare of animals. While the name implies a Georgetown service organization, GAO’s work and involvement extends into the general Williamson County community.
First Saturday of every month at the PetSmart in Georgetown, Texas
