Blossom's story...
This beautiful Shepherd/Lab mix, who is now 4 years old, was abandoned by her owner in 2008 and spent the next 12 months tied up in a friend's backyard. She has been in our foster program since April of this year. Initially terrified of new expeiences Blossom has, well, blossomed!! She is now very social - although still wary of some men - and gets along with male dogs. Blossom loves to run on our acreage and chase bunnies and birds. She is still quite headstrong on leash, but stays with her foster Mom on a daily off leash hike in the hills. She would really benefit from an active owner who can exercise her daily and continue with her skill building. Blossom is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines and house trained.

About Our Rescue Group...
2nd Chance is a small non-profit group taking in strays, older and neglected dogs from local shelters, as well as dogs from the homes of terminally ill owners and those left behind after their owner has passed on. When space is available we will also help with dogs whose owners are divorcing or have lost their home.

Our Adoption Process...
We do our best to evaluate each dog thoroughly and give potential adopters detailed and accurate information. We do not adopt out aggressive dogs nor do we accept them into our program. Anyone interested in adopting a pet from 2nd Chance will first be asked to complete an adoption application. This can be obtained by calling our office, or by visiting our web site at www.2ndChanceDogRescue.org. Potential adopters will be required to provide references and give permission for a home check. Subject to approval, the adopter would then be invited to visit the dog in its foster home. During this time, questions will be asked about lifestyle, expectations of the dog, etc. Such questions are not aimed at offending anyone, but at trying to place the right dog in the right home. Remember, most of our dogs have been rejected as least once, and we want their new homes to be as close to perfect as possible. All our dogs must have house privileges. Assuming the adopter is interested in pursuing the adoption process, representatives will then bring the dog to the home for a brief visit. If the adoption process is approved to proceed, the adopter will be asked to foster the dog for one month. At the time of delivery, the adoption fee is payable. If the dog is returned within the one-month trial period, all monies are refunded. Our adoption fees are:
Dogs under 7 years - $200 Senior dogs - $100** Cats/Kittens – fee varies
After the initial month long trial period, and if all is going well, the adoption becomes final. However, 2nd Chance reserves the right to re-claim the dog if the terms of our adoption contract are not being met. On-going support and advice is available for the lifetime of the dog. If the dog is given up at any time in the future, it must be returned to 2nd Chance, but the adoption fee is not refunded.
Please also note that we offer low cost grooming and boarding to any of our alumni. These fees go directly towards helping other dogs in our foster program.
**Our “Seniors for Seniors” program may waive the adoption fee for senior citizens.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
One of our requirements is to perform a home visit and as such are unable to place our dogs outside the State of California and prefer LA County adoptions.
