My name is Howard Fine from Silverlake and I have recently rescued a dog which was originally abandoned, starving and injured at an industrial property I manage, and then from the LA County shelter in Downey a day before his scheduled euthanasia. I never intended to keep him and have been searching for a permanent home or a rescue organization that can take him since I first came upon him. My neighbor is associated with someone at your organization and already contacted you regarding my situation. Though you knew of no fosters available, someone did say that you could list him with your other dogs. For this I would be very appreciative. Though we are fostering him for now, we already have a fight-ring pit bull rescue that cannot be around other dogs. As you can imagine, keeping the dogs sequestered in our small home is very disruptive and not sustainable. Fortunately, the new rescue is an absolute sweetheart. I have attached a flier I am distributing as well as three separate photos for site listing purposes. We have not named him (we don't want to get too attached), but occasionally refer to him as Scraps. I have no experience with this and don't want an arbitrary name to lower his chances of adoption. He is a male pit bull terrier, approximately 1 year old, neutered, micro-chipped and given all his necessary shots. He is very sweet, friendly and loving. He was evaluated at the shelter and was available for adoption with no restrictions. He has shown no aggression towards any people, children or other dogs and has had quite a bit of contact with them all around our neighborhood. He has played well with other dogs in the neighborhood of various sizes and breeds. He will not be difficult to place due to any related issues. He is a puppy and though he is very obedient and well behaved, he has no training. He will require a family interested in taking an active role in the dog's training. If it weren't for our other dog we would definitely keep him ourselves. If another foster home becomes available we would gladly hand him over immediately. Still, we have some training experience and would consider continuing to work with him and provide limited financial support until he is adopted. I am loathe to return him to a shelter. I think this is the first time he has EVER had a chance to just be a puppy or receive any affection or positive energy from people. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, there is no way I can keep him much longer. My first loyalty obviously is to my own family. We are going to give as much as we can though. I include my contact info below. Please call or write if you require anything further to list him with your other dogs. I am not asking for any compensation to make up for what I have already laid out. I just want him to be placed in the right home, or at least with another foster home. I look forward to hearing from you and hope you can provide some assistance. Per my agreement with the shelter I will be taking him for a physical check-up at my vet this Saturday. If there is anything important resulting from that I will let you know. Again, I thank you for any assistance, suggestions or support that you can provide. Thank you, Howard Fine 323-600-3287 animatic@gmail.com

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs from various Los Angeles shelters the day they are to be euthanized. Our goal is to help provide animals with a second chance to a happy life and to help reduce pet overpopulation through spay and neuter programs. Once rescued, we place our dogs into loving foster homes while they await adoption. We do not keep dogs in kennels. Placing the dogs in foster homes is the first step to rehabilitation, as it allows us to thoroughly evaluate a dog's demeanor and needs enabling us to make the perfect match of dog and permanent owner. We attribute our high rate of successful placement to our foster program. At Ace of Hearts, we do not discriminate against any breed, including those in the bully breed family. Additionally, Ace of Hearts is dedicated to educating the public on how to be responsible pet owners and on the importance of spaying and neutering. We believe the real solution to pet overpopulation is through spaying and neutering pets.
