Note: Before you read further and consider adopting a Crossroads dog, please be aware that we will only adopt out to homes that are within 1 hour from the general Charlotte area. We like to keep our dogs as close as possible and encourage people to support their local shelters and rescues.
BLUE
Status: Adoptable DOB: 01.20.08 Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Basset Hound Mix Sex: Male Weight: 41 lbs. Vet Work: ¹Fully vetted, neutered, microchipped
How is Blue with...
Other Dogs: Blue-Boo gets along great with foster mom’s two medium-sized, senior dogs. In fact, he and foster mom’s female dog are BFFs! Cats: Blue is so used to foster mom’s two cats, he doesn’t even pay attention to them anymore. Children: Foster mom does not have children.
House-training Status: From the first night foster mom brought Blue home, he has been completely potty-trained. He will even stand by the back door until you let him out. Crate-training Status: Because Blue was 100% potty-trained and such a gentle and mellow dog, foster mom does not crate him. However, he has been crated during car transportation to/from the vet and remained in the crate during an adoption event, so he is used to a crate. While foster mom is at work during the day, Blue is in kitchen along with foster mom’s two dogs (not crated). Leash-training Status: Very good.
General Personality and Energy Level: Blue is just now showing his fun side. When he was first rescued, he was very, very mellow. Foster mom believes now that he is feeling better (after a successful elimination of heartworms), his true personality is beginning to shine. He is still the most gentle and mellow dog, but he just has more zest for life and is showing his more playful side.
History: Crossroads Animal Rescue pulled Blue from Char-Meck Animal Care & Control.
Other Comments: Who knows what mix Blue may be. He has the coloring/look of an Australian Shepherd on a Bassett body, yet most people think he is an oversized Cardigan Corgie. Regardless, this dog is such a GREAT DOG! He is just happy to be here. He never barks and is so laid back. He just hangs out, smiles and wags his tail 24/7. He is just now showing he has a playful side as he loves his plush toys and loves to bring them to you, but still isn’t quit sure what to do when he gets them to you... ha-ha! He loves a belly-rub. This dog would be great for apartment/condo living, single person of any age, family pet, etc. He would fit in any household.
¹Fully vetted = Physical exam, DHPP (or DHLPP) and Bordetella vaccines, Rabies vaccine, fecal and/or deworming, Heartworm/Erlichia/Lyme 3-Way Snap Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea/Tick Preventative ²NYA = Not Yet Adoptable ³F2A = Foster2Adopt: This means that an applicant is 'fostering' the dog for a few days to assess how it behaves around them and their other pets. This trial period will let the applicant(s) know whether or not they can successfully bring the dog into their home as part of their family. This only occurs when Crossroads has otherwise completely approved the adoption.

Crossroads Animal Rescue was born out of the heartfelt desire of a small group of likeminded individuals to start a new organization in the Mecklenburg and Union county areas, dedicated to rescuing dogs in desperate circumstances. Our primary method of rescue is to pull dogs out of an animal shelter environment and place them into a loving foster home where their road to recovery and a forever home will begin. We strive to enlist excellent foster homes and parents that will shelter, nurture and begin training the dogs that are in their care. It is our goal for the dog to be in the best physical and emotional state possible when it leaves its foster home and enters its forever home.
It is with the utmost care and consideration that we thoroughly screen our applicants in order to match each dog that enters Crossroads Animal Rescue with its ideal family so that it can truly become a lifelong companion pet once it is in its new home. The funds that are needed to carry out such a large task are raised through adoption donations, public donations and community fundraisers. All donations are tax deductible. All of our board members and foster parents are volunteers and receive no remuneration for their work.
Besides offering top notch rescued dogs to families looking for a new companion, it is also our goal to help the surrounding community better understand how to lower the number of dogs euthanised in Mecklenburg and Union Counties. Only through educating the community about the importance of having their pets spayed or neutered, promoting local Spay/Neuter programs and encouraging families to properly love and care for their companion animals will we see a difference in our counties and in our state. It is with committed hearts and hands that all of the members of Crossroads Animal Rescue will endeavor to make a difference in the Mecklenburg and Union County areas of NC, by saving one dog at a time.
"Saving one dog will not change the world, but you will change the world for that one dog."
