I need help finding a rescue resource for this little girl. She's spayed, microchipped, vaccines current, around 11 months-ish. Owner turn in because they had 4 dogs, had to move, and could only take 2. They turned her in along with a min doxie who got adopted. This was Melonie's best buddy... they slept together. She is very friendly and gives great kisses. Initially she can be a little standoff ish, but when she warms up to you... darling dog who loves belly rubs! The situation below is breaking not only my heart, but my foster/friend/volunteer's heart too. Melonie will be coming back to the shelter. Her only option is rescue. We can't adopt out. Please see what you can do. She's a great girl, just needs some guidance. My work # 760 240 7000 x 7510 Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure what my timeline is. Here's some pics of Melonie and a quick rundown of the behavioral issues I believe she needs some help with. I think she has a bit of a lack of trust in humans and tends towards fearful dominance. During a walk, I was attempting to correct her from targeting a loud dog behind a fence by blocking her from making eye contact. I bumped her on the rear end with my leg and gave her a correction with the leash to turn her away from the other dog. Her reaction seemed extreme for the intensity of the correction. She seemed fearful that I was going to kick her in the behind. I had had a frustrating day and I'm sure my energy was not completely balanced at the time and greatly contributed to her extreme reaction. The first time she protected her rear by swinging it away from my leg and only took her eyes off my feet to target the other dog. After a bit she responded to my corrections and calmed down, then we moved on. The second time it was the same sinario only this time when I corrected her she swung her back end around and bit my foot. It was a quick hard bite that, if I wasn't wearing shoes, could've broken the skin. Again I believe it was my energy that created the bite. |
