Cita's story...
Cita - (Female)
Breed: Labrador Retriever

Age: 2 Years
Weight: 65 Pounds
History: Shelter

Description: Cita is a gorgeous, intelligent, high-energy and generally sweet-tempered black Lab. We estimate that she is 1-2 years old. She has no white markings, save for a scattering of individual white hairs across her face. (I tell her she's been sprinkled with fairy dust.) At the base of her skull is a cute little whirlpool of hair, which leads into a sort of Mohawk down the top of her neck. She is completely housebroken, knows the "sit" command and we are working on "stay." (She knows it; she just doesn't always do it!!) But she does know she must sit before crossing streets and sit before she gets fed.

When she arrived at AFH, she had a litter of beautiful yellow puppies, all of whom have gone to their forever homes, and she has now been spayed.

Cita is one of those dogs who, given lots of attention and affection, will be incredibly loyal and devoted to her owner(s). I have considered renaming her Shadow, because she is rarely more than a few feet away from me -- if I am working at home, she is lying under my desk. If I am sleeping, she is on the floor beside me all night long. Pull back the shower curtain; there's Cita standing by the tub!

She is quite good with people. When her puppies were young, there were multiple visitors to the house to view them, as well as frequent visits from the neighbor children, and Cita was fine with everyone -- men, women, children.

Aside from her puppies, however, she hasn't been around other dogs much and tends to be fearful, and has growled and lunged at them. This is a behavior we are working on by deliberately putting her in controlled situations where other dogs are present. But I have a cat in the house that she gets along with beautifully! Sometimes they even eat out of the same bowl together! (The cat, obviously, is quite comfortable with dogs -- actually, she's never taken any guff off any dog...she ruled our beloved Doberman!)

Every evening, we take a long walk in the park, which she loves -- plus, she is a wild and enthusiastic tennis-ball chaser in the back yard!

Cita will be a wonderful addition to any animal-savvy family or individual. She did a great job raising her three spectacularly beautiful puppies and now is most deserving of her own forever home.
