Hello my new friends! If you’re a fan of the hit show, True Blood, then you will appreciate my name…..it is Sookie! Don’t I look like a Sookie? I’m not going to suck your blood like a vampire, but I do have some nice pearly whites that I’m willing to show off to a crowd of two or more!
My story is…questionable. You see, I believe I was hit by a car and dislocated my elbow. After a couple months of dragging my arm along the streets of Phoenix, I was picked up by the Humane Society. They treated me the best they could and handed me over to Almost Home where my arm was fixed by surgery. I sported a fancy cast for about two months and since having it removed, I have been going through physical therapy to make my limp go away. Hey, no judging or anything, but I really didn’t want to be labeled a ‘gimp’. So I worked hard and now my limp is practically gone! You cannot even tell I had a broken leg. I know what you’re thinking and yes…. I AM amazing! :P Even though I’m amazing, my doctor would like me to remain on a daily dosage of glucosamine with chondroitin help keep me healthy and as young as a spring chicken! I also have a prescription that needs to be filled for daily 15 minute walks to keep me limber! Oh oh oh and I need a jowl towel! Please please! I don’t drool very much, but sometimes when I drink water I walk away with my mouth wide open and full of water. It is my way of making sure you keep your floors clean!
I’m currently in a home with two canine, female cousins, and a feline. I get along great with my Dobie sister and sometimes run green with envy when it comes to my boxer sister. I keep telling my therapist, the resident cat, she gets more attention than I do and I try to correct it on my own. He tells me I’m crazy and should just be friends with my sister again. I’m working on this and my foster mom is being oh so generous with teaching me how to work through my jealously issues. When I play with my foster sisters I’m very vocal. No worries, I’m not trying to hurt them, I just get a little excited when I play and I like to make some noise! My favorite games are ‘Chase’ and ‘Keep Away’. I love kids! My foster family has two older kids that are junior high and high school ages. I’m gentle with small children – I like to pretend they are my babies! I love attention and will do everything in my power to get you to pet me! I love to follow my foster family around the house. Most boxers are called ‘Velcro’ dogs because they want to be near you. I’m what they call a ‘SUPER GLUE’ dog because I actually want to be touching you at ALL times. I have options to play with toys and other dogs, but in all reality I want nothing more than to be near my humans. My foster mom is working with me regarding my desperate need for excessive attention. I just love people so much; it is hard for me to stay away – don’t hate! J
During the day while my foster mom is at work, I’m crated. I love my crate! I sleep it even when I don’t need to be in it. So please have a crate for me so I have a quiet place to call my very own. Even though I am crated during the day, I am completely housetrained and even know how to use the dog door. During the night, I will sleep on the floor near your bed and saw logs all night long! Just call me Piglet!
I’m doing very well with my obedience training. My foster mom is training me using Nothing in Life is Free (NILIF) and I love it! I know how to sit, don’t jump, walk well on a leash, and like to pat you on the leg to remind you how well I’m sitting. Sometimes when out for a walk I get overexcited and scare other dogs, which in turn results in me being told to be quiet so I don’t frighten them. I know the word ‘out’. I think it means I need to leave the room…..I’m obsessed with the kitchen during mealtimes! I enjoy the ancient practice of barking at the doorbell and front yard trespassers, so in turn my mom is teaching me the ancient practice of the word ‘stop’. So far, I’m doing very well!
Oh and just so you know I’m my foster mom’s favorite foster since the beginning of time! I’m just that fantastic! Before you know it, I’ll be your favorite too! Apply for me today!

FAQ's:
Where is your facility? Can we come see your dogs? WE DO NOT HAVE A SHELTER OR BOARDING FACILITY. ALL OF OUR RESCUES ARE IN PRIVATE HOMES AROUND THE VALLEY. WE INVITE YOU TO ATTEND ONE OF OUR MONTHLY ADOPTION EVENTS IF YOU'D LIKE TO MEET SOME OF OUR RESCUES BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT.
Do you adopt out of the state of AZ? ABSOLUTELY! BUT ONE OF OUR REQUIREMENTS IS A HOME VISIT AND WE MAY NOT HAVE A VOLUNTEER IN YOUR STATE. PLEASE VISIT WWW.BOXERMAP.COM TO APPLY WITH A BOXER RESCUE IN YOUR AREA! ONCE APPROVED, IF THEY DON'T HAVE A MATCH FOR YOU, ASK THEM TO CONTACT US AND WE CAN SEE IF THERE MIGHT BE A MATCH TO ONE OF OUR RESCUES!
When/where can we meet your rescues? WE HAVE ADOPTION EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WHERE YOU CAN MEET THE RESCUES PRIOR TO FILLING OUT AN APPLICATION. SEE THE *EVENTS* SECTION OF OUR WEBSITE TO SEE WHERE WE WILL BE!
Any other way we can meet one of your rescues? IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND AN EVENT, YOU WILL NEED TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION (FIRST STEP) AND RECEIVE A HOME VISIT (LAST STEP) - THERE ARE STEPS IN BETWEEN! ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS WILL BE ABLE TO MEET OUR RESCUES OUTSIDE OF ADOPTION EVENTS...WE CHOOSE NOT TO DISRUPT OUR FOSTER HOMES WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE 'JUST LOOKING'.
Why does it seem that most of your dogs are 'pending' or 'adopted'? By the time I see a rescue I'm interested in and start to fill out the application, they are no longer available! IF YOU HAVE YOUR HEART SET ON A SPECIFIC RESCUE, YOU MAY HAVE YOUR HEART BROKEN. OUR PROCESS IS QUICK, AND WE HAVE A GROWING WAITING LIST OF APPROVED APPLICANTS. THOSE ON THE WAITING LIST GET TO SEE OUR NEW RESCUES BEFORE WE POST THEM FOR ADOPTION AND START TO TAKE NEW APPLICATIONS.
Can I apply for a specific rescue? ABSOLUTELY! IT'S HARD NOT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE PICTURES OF OUR RESCUES, BUT IT'S IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN MIND THAT NOT ALL DOGS WILL MATCH ALL HOMES - JUST LIKE ALL HOMES WON'T MATCH ALL DOGS. THE FOSTER HOME KNOWS THEIR RESCUE BEST AND WHAT TYPE OF HOME WILL BEST SUIT THEIR FOSTER. IF YOU HAVE SPECIFICS ABOUT COLOR, AGE, ETC. WE SUGGEST THAT YOU START THE APPROVAL PROCESS SO WE CAN FIND YOUR PERFECT MATCH!

- Let 'em know you saw "Sookie" on Adopt-a-Pet.com!
We are a private, volunteer, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. We are dedicated to the rescue of unwanted, neglected, and abandoned pets. We specialize in boxers, but for the perfect home we can help you find the perfect pet, or point you to a rescue who can. We provide food, shelter, medical attention, and TLC during our rescues wait for the "RIGHT" forever home.
All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout the valley - we do not have a shelter that you can visit. Once you submit an application, your references are checked and the home visit is complete, we will contact you to set up a satisfactory meeting place for a get-together with your potential adoptive pet.
Our dogs are cared for in foster homes during this wait. We try to have them in a foster home environment for at least 2 weeks. They are temperament tested to the best of our ability to ensure a perfect match into their new home. Our number one concern is for the safety of the adoptive family and the happiness of the pet. We strive for a FOREVER placement - not all dogs are perfect for all families. We don't want to place "A" dog in your home - we want to place "THE" dog for your family!
We can't save every dog but we can make a difference...one dog at a time!
We are desperately seeking foster homes for our wonderful dogs! We also accept used crates or donations of any kind!
Please contact us about a specific pet - we do not have a shelter facility. All pets are in foster homes around the state of Arizona.
Our Adoption Process...
We prefer e-mail to cut down on cell phone minute usage! Once an application is submitted, it is reviewed, references are checked, and a home visit is done. If approved, we will contact you about the dog you are interested in. We want to place these dogs with the "RIGHT" families so it may take a bit to find that dog for you, please be patient.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
We adopt within the state of Arizona or surrounding areas where there is no active boxer rescue.
