Roy's story...
Roy is a cute, beautifully coifed neutered male with a rich brindle-black Chow
Chow/Sheltie coat. Roy has an adorable bear face. He steals your heart on first glance. Roy is shy with strangers, as is characteristic of the Chow Chow breed. Roy is a very affectionate dog with those he has come to know and love. A calm introduction involving treats usually will make the acquaintance. At home he is loving, and satisfied to simply camp out with his humans wherever they might be in the home. Roy is neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on shots. He weighs about 45 pounds. Roy does not do well in a crate, but can usually be trusted without crating, having shown no tendencies toward destructive behavior. He is housebroken, but needs to be properly transitioned into his new home’s schedule. Roy has made canine friends through the years. When Roy makes the acquaintance of a canine playmate, he plays with a vengeance. He doesn’t want to quit. It is great exercise for both dogs, but if his playmate is not as persistent as he, the play should be supervised. He does not get along with all other dogs and can be aggressive with other dogs, particularly small dogs. He tends to avoid strange dogs his own size and larger.. He is very protective of his home territory. He is not good with cats. Roy has been through initial obedience training, and is responsive on a training collar. As we recommend for all Illinois Humane dogs, Roy needs ample exercise. He very much enjoys a daily walk. To visit with Roy, please join us at our off-site adoptions at PetCo, 2721 S. Veterans Parkway, Springfield, Ill., on the first and fourth Sunday of each month or the second and third Sundays at PetsMart, 3138 S. Veterans Parkway, Springfield, IL. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If that doesn't match your schedule, please email jmcbridenator@gmail.com or call (217) 652-2731 or (217) 698-3804 to arrange for a visit with Roy.
