PBR China's story...
Chyna is Exceptionally house and crate trained. Has an entire bedroom all to herself and never messed the rug once, even while enduring some 9 hour workdays.

Calm and Non-aggressive with cats, but will follow them around the house.

Quiet and still during car rides. Not food aggressive at all.

Only tolerant of very small kids (seeks refuge after a time), but strongly craves being part of the family environment.

Outwardly friendly and open to greet new faces. Needs a regular monthly bathing for healthy, good smelling skin. She is a real dear and no trouble at all to care for.

Below is Chyna's story as told by her foster mom Rescuing Chyna:

It was the 2008 Halloween fund raiser event at 'Pound Buddies' that drew us in for a visit. Being long time fans and owners of a certain breed type, we have a considerable soft spot for the Shar-Pei.

We recently had rescued a female only just this same summer with a number of heartwarming and unexpected positive results for our family.

It was on this early fall afternoon that we left the sunny blue sky overhead and brought our own playful spirits in to visit the kennels. Here we saw a number of little buddies filled with hopeful energy.

But it was when we crossed the doors of one not so hopeful that our hearts quickly fell. Just on the other side; buried in a nest of wrinkles as deep and twisted as the bark of an old oak tree - was a set of silent wet stones. Her eyes seemed completely void of any joy.

We had to meet her, if only to take her out for a walk in the crisp air and sunlight.

She was nearly hairless in a number of places. Her skin was a sad contradiction; with its multitude of wrinkles and the alarming number of bones clearly visible. Despite her physical discomfort and a nagging cough, she drew on some unforeseen energy and giving us the blind trust that we hadn't yet earned, walked slowly with us.

We knew she was in bad shape, but she had managed the walk and her effort to do so was not lost on us. We immediately agreed to initiate the Foster process and await the day her owner's grace period would expire and she could come stay.

Those few days almost proved too much, as her condition only worsened. Her cough had turned persistent and she had lost interest in food. It seemed her will had fallen to match her state of health. The function of her internal systems could no longer be taken for granted.

When she arrived, she had her own bedroom, a heating blanket to combat the fevers and a food bowl that she never seemed to touch. Getting medicine down her was a problem as she wouldn't even take soft food or soup. For days she was gently medicated by syringe and later enticed with peanut butter. No improvement for a full week; it seemed the best she could offer us was to just hold on. Maybe it was partly our affection, but it seemed once she got in her head that love had already found her; and all she need do was only stick around to get it, she began an amazing recovery.

Within a few weeks her cough was almost non-existent. She had gained a pound or two and was eating fully on her own. She showed a new playfulness; briskly wagging her tail was a real thing to see. I enticed her playfully and she barked, right there in the middle of the room with all there to here it, she had barked.

We just looked at each other; finally there was a voice to go with this sweet, lovable dog.

Her adoption fee is $195.00

About Our Rescue Group...
We are a 501c non-profit organization. All of our members are volunteers, who share a common love of animals. In October 2003 our local animal shelter announced they would no longer handle adoptions of the homeless animals bought into the shelter. We worked with the county of Muskegon and eventually took over the adoption program for the shelter. Otherwise all animals taken into the shelter would of been euthanized if an owner did not show up to claim them. As part of the agreement with the county we also do the cleaning and feeding of the animals on weekends and holidays.
We also have foster families who take in homeless pets from the shelter to live with them until they can find their forever home.

The fee for a shelter dog is a $125.00 pre-paid deposit to your vet ( this deposit is towards the cost of altering the pet .) plus $20.00 to us for microchipping. The cost of adoption for a foster dog is $195.00 - $300.00 since they have already been altered and are up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped.
We require all family members and dogs to meet the dog before adoption. We track the dogs progress for the rest of it's life. We always take our dogs back if something happens and you can no longer keep your dog. This is why we want to make sure it is a perfect fit right from the beginning!

We do adopt out of state but you must own your home and have a vet reference. We do not ship our dogs. You must travel to Muskegon in order to meet them.

We do NOT adopt to homes with unaltered pets. No exceptions.
