PBR Virgil's story...
Virgil is a pit bull with big gargoyle ears and a smile a mile long. This athletic dog is a great example of a bully dog. He loves to play in the yard, running, tugging, and staring at his arch enemy “the squirrel!”

But in the house, he is nose to your knee following you everywhere you go , curling up into a little dog ball , his big head atop wanting to snuggle! The perfect ying and yang of a dog!

Bully breeds can be a strong minded dogs and what they don’t need is a home that feels sorry for them and their past lives. They want and desire a strong person they can look up and love with all their heart. Virgil has stolen this foster moms heart!

Virgil is about 2 – 3 years old; he is not very big but weighs in at 58 pounds of pure love and muscle. Virgil is crate trained, house trained, knows “Sit” and “Down”, “leave it” and “Take it nice” (he takes treats so sweetly I guarantee you will giggle). Up to date in shots and heartworm checks and preventative. Also he is altered (neutered).

He and my cat have become fast buddies. She follows him everwhere, cleaning his ears and rubbing on his big forhead. Its really cute!

Virgil does need some leash training, I fear this winter we both have been lazy and not too thrilled about the weather (I am not sure who shakes more in the cold me or him!).

He walks very nicely but when he sees something that interests him suddenly the lil dog becomes a big dog and he pulls.

I think he would do best as an only dog, his focus is all on his human He has a carefree attitude about other dogs, he likes them just fine but just doesn’t seem to want to play with them. Virgil loves the dogs he knows , but dogs he doesn’t know that run up to his face him make him nervous.

Due to his strength I feel too that he would do best in a home with children over 14. He isn’t a dog to jump but he plays with his paws and that could easily scratch smaller ones or knock them over.

Don’t let the media scare you away from a true American Breed. This is one awesome athletic and loving companion!

Please do not call Vector Control to inquire about adoptions as they are seperate from Pound Buddies.
Dogs puppies with PBR and a name are in foster homes and are NOT at the shelter. Adoption fees for foster dogs range from $185.00 to $235.00.
Foster dogs are already altered, current on vaccines and have been heartworm tested if age appropriate. In order to meet a foster pet, you must have an approved application on file with us. We will then schedule an appointment that is convenient for both you and the Foster Parents.
If you would like more info on this pet please e-mail
doggiebarb@verizon.net and I will give you as much info as I can. All breed ID's, ages and size dogs will reach as adults are estimates and are not
guarentees. Thank You for your interest in a pet in need of a home. We do accept out of state applications provided you have a vet reference, own your own home, and are willing to drive to Muskegon to meet your pet. We do not ship our pets.

About Our Rescue Group...
We are a 501c non-profit organization. All of our members are volunteers, who share a common love of animals. In October 2003 our local animal shelter announced they would no longer handle adoptions of the homeless animals bought into the shelter. We worked with the county of Muskegon and eventually took over the adoption program for the shelter. Otherwise all animals taken into the shelter would of been euthanized if an owner did not show up to claim them. As part of the agreement with the county we also do the cleaning and feeding of the animals on weekends and holidays.
We also have foster families who take in homeless pets from the shelter to live with them until they can find their forever home.

Come Meet Our Pets...
We work from the main shelter at 1300 E. Keating, Muskegon, MI. We are open to the public for adoptions of shelter dogs on Wednesdays from 5:30pm -7:00pm and Saturdays from 11:00am-1:30pm. We also have adopt-a-days for our dogs in foster care who live with families. Please check the website for additonal information. To schedule a meeting outside of an adopt-a-day for a foster pet, you must first have an approved application. We then set up an appointment for you.
Our Adoption Process...
In order to adopt you must first submit an application. Upon approval of the application we will set up an appointment to meet a foster dog or invite you to the shelter to adopt a shelter dog.
You may obtain an application by visting our website and clicking on the pet's picture page, or e-mailing rwladywolf@verizon.net for an application to be e-mailed to you.
The fee for a shelter dog is a $125.00 pre-paid deposit to your vet ( this deposit is towards the cost of altering the pet .) plus $20.00 to us for microchipping. The cost of adoption for a foster dog is $195.00 - $300.00 since they have already been altered and are up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped.
We require all family members and dogs to meet the dog before adoption. We track the dogs progress for the rest of it's life. We always take our dogs back if something happens and you can no longer keep your dog. This is why we want to make sure it is a perfect fit right from the beginning!

We do adopt out of state but you must own your home and have a vet reference. We do not ship our dogs. You must travel to Muskegon in order to meet them.

We do NOT adopt to homes with unaltered pets. No exceptions.
