Duke is a very sweet dog, who was owned by a very irresponsible family before coming to our rescue. He is approximately 23-25lbs. overweight and has been put on a strict diet! He should be 25lbs. max, and he's about 50 lbs. right now (as of 8-16-09 he has lost weight, yay!) He is a 13' Beagle who is said to be about 5yrs. of age. He had cheat grass embedded in his ears, and had to make an emergency stop by our vet, upon being rescued from the bad situation. He will have no lasting problems due to that however. He IS a purebred Beagle, and as a hunting breed, should not go to a home with CATS, sorry! He is a little too enthusiastic about meeting them for us to feel comfortable sending him to a home with them. He does fine with other dogs and in fact appears afraid of them at first, so nice dogs preferred! Duke is a very nice boy, who it is apparent has been struck by people's hands prior to coming here - he flinches even if you reach to pet him. Despite that, he's not afraid of humans, and in fact really wants to trust, he's not aggressive in any way, but we do recommend OLDER kids please, if children are present, due to his abusive background. Again, we do not anticipate lasting problems from that either. $125 adoption fee for Duke to help offset our costs to prepare him for adoption.
