Maxx needs to find a new home due to a change in his family's situation. He is 3 years old, good with other dogs and most people but he has not been exposed to young children. Maxx has been eating natural dog food, has a healthy coat and weighs about 75 pounds. He is very affectionate, high energy, and needs regular exercise to stay happy. Maxx loves to play fetch with his ball. He has had basic training and a little bit of protection training so care will need to be taken in choosing a new home for him. He was a big baby at home but if the doorbell rang or someone tried to come into the house, he defended it. Maxx needs to find a home with someone who is experienced, confident and has affection but still rules, otherwise he will run the household, which could be a dangerous scenario. Like most dogs with protection training, he will react well to people he meets that do not demonstrate anxiety towards him. Maxx has not been exposed to cats, but does run after squirrels if he spots them. He is excellent health but does have a slightly low thyroid, which is easily and inexpensively managed with a daily pill.
Kiko Dog Rescue and Adoptions is a small non-profit rescue group located west of Montreal near the Quebec/Ontario border and is named after a little black Pug rescued from a puppy mill. We are dedicated to helping dogs that have found themselves homeless, whether they are from a pound, puppy mill or a home surrender, by placing them in the loving forever homes they so deserve. All dogs that come into our rescue receive whatever veterinary care they require, including everything from dentistry to surgery to help correct an uncomfortable or painful medical condition. On December 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., don't miss the annual Adoption Day, Blessing of the Pets and Pet Photos with Santa taken by the professionals at May's Studio at the Stephen F. Shaar Community Centre in Hudson. Proceeds from the photos are always donated to different rescues. We are delighted that this year, they will be coming to Kiko to help pay our vet bills. We are very grateful and thank the organizers very much for having chosen us.
Our Adoption Process...
If you are interested in adopting a Kiko dog, please e-mail us. You will be asked to complete an adoption application so that we can get to know you better. A home visit is also mandatory, often with the dog that interests you. Our adoption fee is $400 and all our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, defleaed, dewormed*, vaccinated, sterilized and also tested for heartworm and lyme disease. *Please note that puppies adopted at a young age may require ongoing deworming for up to six months. Although this is a relatively inexpensive treatment, Kiko is unable to cover this and will only take care of deworming while the puppy is under the care of the rescue.
We have several great dogs who have been patiently waiting for their forever homes. Bogart is an energetic terrier who loves water. Luna is a pretty Collie/Shepherd mix who needs a fenced yard to play in—she is wonderful with children. Taz is an attentive Shepherd mix with loads of potential. Bandit is a very clever Jack Russell mix who had been mistreated so a special home is needed for him.
Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another dog to sleep in comfort, please donate a Kuranda dog bed.
