Bella is a beautiful little CKC registered shih tzu. She is 7 years old (D.O.B. 9-9-02) and weighs 9.8 pounds. Bella was returned to rescue due to continuing urinary tract infections which turned out to be a large bladder stone. The bladder stone had to be surgically removed and she must remain on special food for life. She will not be placed in a home with children under the age of 12. Bella has only recently begun to play with the other small dogs in her foster home; we think she would be okay with another dog, but she would have to be monitored at first since she has been an “only dog” all her life. Bella is a true lap baby and would be a wonderful companion for a retired person or couple. She does have some separation anxiety issues (who wouldn’t after all she’s been through?) so she would probably not be a good choice for an apartment or other home with shared walls. Bella's adoption donation is $100, which is negotiable for an applicant who can convince her foster mom that she would be well taken care of, both financially and emotionally. Bella is being fostered in Birmingham, Alabama. We do approve out of state adoptions, but only if the adopter is willing to drive to the foster home to "fetch" the new family member. We do not ship or transport our dogs. If you are interested in adopting Bella, please email us at info@littlebitsrescue.org or fill out an APPLICATION.
We do not place any dog in a home with "invisible" or underground fencing.
Our mission is to rescue toy breed dogs (purebred and mixed) from local shelters or from owners wishing to surrender dogs. We provide all necessary vet care, including spay/neuter and vaccinations. We then place the dogs in new homes after an extensive screening process.
We do not have a shelter. All our dogs are housed in our personal homes. For this reason, we do not arrange meetings until we have received a completed application.
Our Adoption Process...
The first step in our adoption process is an application. We also do reference checks, a personal phone interview with the applicant, and a home visit. Our adoptions require a legally binding contract. Our fees vary from dog to dog, but the average is $200.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
We are based in Birmingham, Alabama, and we also have a foster home in the Huntsville, Alabama area. We do approve out of area adoptions if the adopter is willing to drive to the foster home to "fetch" the new baby.
