Estimated Date of Birth: March 3, 2009 FIV Positive
Gala is a beautiful little tuxedo girl who plays and acts just like a normal kitten but needs to be adopted by a special person who understands FIV. She may be a little reserved as she warms up to a new home, but once she does, she will be a sweet and cuddly companion. She loves to play with other kitties although she would also do well as an only cat. She enjoys all kinds of toys and has a favorite little white mouse toy that she carries all around the house. Gala would do best in a quiet house with maybe another kitty friend.
Gala tested positive for FIV which stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Because she is young, she may be harboring antibodies from an FIV+ mommy, so it is possible she will eventually test negative. Gala can live a normal life with FIV. Won't you consider giving this special little girl a chance?
Some facts about FIV+ cats:
FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or non-feline animals.
FIV cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all.
FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread casually - like in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. The virus can be spread through blood transfusions, badly infected gums, or serious, penetrating bite wounds. (Bite wounds of this kind are extremely rare, except in free-roaming, un-neutered tomcats.)
A spayed/neutered inside cat, is extremely unlikely to infect other cats, if properly introduced.
Many vets are not educated about FIV since the virus was only discovered 15 years ago.
FIV-positive cats should be kept as healthy as possible. Keep them indoors and free from stress, feed them a high-quality diet, keep and treat any secondary problems as soon as they arise.

We are a relatively new no-kill rescue group in Wake Forest, that takes in stray and abandoned cats / kittens, and then works to find them their forever homes. All of our animals are tested, vaccinated and have either been spayed or neutered. Although we currently have a wonderful all-volunteer staff, we always need more help (foster homes, fundraising, PR, website work, newsletters, etc). If you are interested in volunteering (even for just a few hours) or donating to help us rescue more cats and kittens, please contact us !!
We list all of our adoption events and our available kitties on our website: www.HobbesHouse.org . Our adoption events are normally held each weekend at the PetSmart at BrierCreek ( Saturday from 11 - 2 and Sunday from 12:30 - 3:30 ) If you are interested in meeting one of our kitties, please email or call us !
Our Adoption Process...
We require that you fill out an application. If you live in an apartment, we then call them to insure they allow pets. If you have owned a pet before, we contact your vet for a reference. After these two things have been done, we then contact you to discuss your application. Our adoption fee is $100 for non- microchipped cats and $115 for microchipped cats, which covers our basic medical costs (vaccines, Feline Leukemia / FIV testing and spay/neuter).
