Calvin [DC]'s story...
Calvin is a Chestnut-fronted or Severe Macaw, which is a type of mini-Macaw -- he is smaller than his big cousins, such as Blue & Gold Macaws. Calvin is a very interactive, active, clever, and curious bird. He says "Step up" and offers his foot to you when he wants you to pick him up (which is usually whenever you go by!). Calvin often speaks appropriately. He says "Good night" at bedtime and "Goodbye" when someone leaves. He waves his foot while he says "Hi." He even likes to hang upside down from your hand. As with most parrots, Calvin needs and craves lots of attention. He doesn't want to just hang out on top of his cage or on a nearby playstand. He'll climb down from wherever he is and walk right on over to you to get you to interact with him! Like any parrot, Calvin needs a good diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruits, a big cage to call his home while you're away, and lots of toys to destroy. Besides talking, he does make noise -- he's a parrot, after all! Calvin has plucked in the past and it is unlikely his feathers will grow back. He is a good member of the family and gets along fine with other family pets, including other birds.

For information about Phoenix Landing's adoption process, please email inquiry@phoenixlanding.org. Email is the best and fastest way to communicate with Phoenix Landing.

Phoenix Landing's primary areas of operation include: Maryland (MD), Washington (DC), Virginia (VA), North Carolina (NC), the eastern panhandle of West Virginia (WV), Greenville (SC), and Knoxville (TN). Our Education Program is a fun and required part of Phoenix Landing's adoption process. For this reason, adoptions are limited to our locations in MD, DC, VA, NC, SC, and TN, and close surrounding areas (including bordering locations in PA, DE, WV). If you live beyond our adoption areas, we encourage you to locate a non-profit parrot adoption organization in your area or email us for assistance finding one. Many parrots need our help!

If you are considering adoption through PL, please check out http://www.phoenixlanding.org for more information and to download a copy of our Adoption Application in DOC or PDF format. All potential adopters/fosters must attend our Educational Seminars, have a brief in-Home Visit, and pay an Adoption Fee.

For more information about Phoenix Landing Education Events, please visit our web site, at: http://www.phoenixlanding.org/events.html

Thank you for considering adoption!

About Our Rescue Group...
The Phoenix Landing Foundation (PL) is a non-profit all-volunteer organization. PL promotes and protects the welfare of parrots, especially those with an extensive lifespan. We provide for parrots of all types in need, and act as advocates for those without protection. Visit our website at http://www.phoenixlanding.org for more information. We also sponsor great educational seminars! All are welcome (please do not bring your birds or other pets). Most of PL's classes are free, although of course we always welcome donations.
