Gus is an adorable 2 y.o. n.m. black shaggy Schnauzer mix, with 'down' ears.He is a cheerful and playful little guy that will bring you a lot of happiness. Gus weighs 17-20 lbs and is in very good health. He is an active dog that loves to run outdoors in his fenced yard, though he spends most of his day in the house. He loves to run, jump, chase a ball, and catch lizards. He has Schnauzer in his blood so he is a little head strong at times and precocious. He is protective of those he loves and does not like to have children disciplined when he is near. He makes friends with strangers though it may take him a little time, then he is your friend for ever. We do have an electronic no bark collar that we use from time to time to ease his barking and it has helped. (I do plan to send that along) Gus is very motivated by food. He will sit and stay and 'sit up pretty' , especially when he knows he is going to get a treat. He is fed Science diet 3/4 of a cup daily. We hold the dish up and give the command if necessary to sit ... put the food down and then say OK and he eats. I do pet him and touch him when he eats but for a new owner they should do this with caution so that he gains their trust. I think that he would love to have a new owner that is not a first time dog owner. He needs someone who will call his bluff. He will try and get away with many little things. He thinks jumping on the bed is fun and I have allowed him on the furniture with me while I read or watch TV. I am so sorry to have to give him up now as he matures. He does need to monitored when he is outdoors so that he is not tempted to dig out or dig for moles. He does have beagle? in him and they love to hunt. He will be available after Sunday Sept. 6. Adopt A rescued Pet, Inc. is an all-volunteer non-profit organization designated a 501 (C) (3) by the IRS. AARPI was founded in 2004 by a group of experienced volunteers devoted to saving animals in Citrus County.
Several businesses have allowed us to have adoption events at their sites. On our website we have have a calendar of adoption events. We ask potential adopters to visit the animals at those sites.
Our Adoption Process...
Prospective adopters must complete an adoption form and sign an adoption agreement. Potential adopters are screened to make an appropriate match with a new pet. Information like the number of children and pets in the household is important in determining the best pet for that particular home. A home visit is made before each adoption and another may be scheduled at a later date to ensure all around satisfaction both for the pet and adoptive family.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
