Emma's story...
I was rescued from Miami-Dade Animal Control on Fourth of July, so my freedom and the freedom of the nation coincide. From now on every time we celebrate Independence Day, I will also celebrate my rebirth! One day I was in a home where I was loved and cared for. I’m a very sweet and trim 14 -pound dainty little girl. When I was left at the shelter I had painted toe nails, a heart murmur and lots of tarter on my teeth, but none of this matters …because I got gumption! I may be 9 or 10 years old, but you wouldn’t know it from the way I run and jump into any welcoming lap. Like the poet I’m named after – Emma Lazarus, the writer of the welcome on the Statue of Liberty (Bring me your tired, your hungry, your …yearning to be free) I am only too happy to oblige all visitors with a warm welcome and loving gaze.

I’m very easy to care for: a little chicken and kibble, a comfy bed and a soft blanket, is all I need for the daytime. At night all I ask for is a little room under the covers (I’m very slim) and perhaps, a small space on your pillow to lay my head next to yours. Yes, I’ve been around the block a few times, but experience makes me the best housemate you could possibly ask for. If you feel like something is missing in your life, that you need a little special touch to make your house feel more like a home, well, all you have to do is bring me home and I promise to make that place you go at the end of the day seem more like a safe refuge from the storm outside.

Emma is being fostered in Miami, in case you want to stop by for a personal introduction. Her adoption fee is only $100 which will help pay for her vet care. We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Dachshund Rescue of South Florida is a foster based rescue who helps hotdogs regardless of age, health, or behavioral issues find new homes after being in a shelter, as a stray out on the streets, or owner surrendered.

We take our work very seriously and screen our potential forever families thoroughly to ensure that our dogs will never have to worry or want for anything ever again.

Our mission is to educate people who may be unfamiliar with rescue and the time, love, and compassion that goes into identifying a little one in a shelters through getting them settled into their new forever home and why choosing to rescue a dog can be one of the most rewarding things a family can choose to do.

If you are looking to add a dachshund to your family we would love to work with you. We have done our best to help explain the process and share some our favorite "happy tales" from our former dogs with their new forever families. We are happy to answer any questions you may have and we are looking forward to meeting you!
