| Brandy is a beautiful girl, approximately 1 ˝ years old. She is loving and playful and needs a home where she will be treasured and loved the rest of her life Brandy is a survivor of a sad life so far. Animal control found Brandy badly inured in Giles county, southern Virginia. Her right paw appeared to have been caught in a trap. She was in extreme pain, her paw contorted and raw, with deep injuries to the flesh. She was taken to the shelter and left there over the weekend with no medical care. 4Paws learned of Brandy’s situation and offered to pay for immediate medical care. Brandy had a raging infection, was pregnant and very thing. She underwent surgery and her injured and rotting flesh was removed. She, of course, lost her kittens in the process. It appeared that Brandy would like likely require her paw to be amputated but she was bandaged and sent to 4Paws for additional care. She traveled to Northern Virginia on June 19. From that day until August 18, she required her paw to be cleansed, treated and re-bandaged every 4 days, and sometimes more often. She received pain medication 3x a day, along with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication. Throughout this ordeal, Brandy was cooperative as she could be. Although she sometimes trembles with pain, she never sought to bite or scratch those who were trying to help her. She began to show some signs of being a playful kitten in mid-July, when she suddenly used her left paw to at some toy mice. Her paw finally healed enough so that on August 18, the bandage was taken off. You can see that she lost most of her claws and there are still some soft pink spots and a minor wound that needs to close. Her beautiful fur is starting to grow back. Brandy will need to return to Great Falls Animal Hospital in one month for a check up on her paw. Right now, the healing process is on track and it appears that she will lead a fully normal life. However at this time we cannot say for certain that she might not require some follow up care or even surgery. If the wound does not close or if her claws grow back in abnormally, this would required surgery to fix. Brandy now runs and plays with the best of them! She likes other cats and loves rot play. She can be a little mischievous with the other cats and is always looking to start something – a game or a chase. She loves to hide in cardboard boxes and swat those who come by. She would make a wonderful addition to your household. Please give her a chance – you won’t be disappointed! Brandy is spayed, current on all vaccines, and has tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV. |
