DOB 7/31/09
Simon, Simone and Sierra are three little orphans who darted out from under a truck when someone was clearing a junkyard. Nearby neighbors nabbed the threesome and brought them to DKC.
Sierra is adventuresome, Simon is talkative and Simone is a little demure. All are infinitely sweet and will be ready for adoption later in October.
If you are interested in adopting this pet please contact the Adoption Director, an on-site adoption volunteer or visit the shelter, and submit a filled-in adoption application (dognkittycity.org/docs/adoptionapp.pdf) to the Adoption Director in person or by fax at 214-363-6529 (for dogs) and 214-220-8548 (for cats).
Please note that many of our dogs are at off-site adopt-a-pets on Saturdays, and some of our pets are in foster homes or other off-site adoption locations, such as PetSmart. Please email us to verify that the pet you are interested in is at the shelter prior to visiting us.

The Humane Society of Dallas County has been a rescue organization since its inception in 1975. In 1987, we established Dallas' first no-kill animal shelter, Dog & Kitty City.
Our goal is to place healthy and rehabilitated animals into loving and responsible homes. We spay or neuter all our animals before adoptions, as this policy will help decrease animal over-population. We test all our cats for FeLV and FIV, and our dogs are treated for heartworms. Both are treated for parasites. All necessary vaccinations and medication are given as required.
In addition to our adoption services, we also function partly as a sanctuary by taking in difficult to place animals, older animals, feral animals, and FIV and FeLV positive cats.
Dog & Kitty City relies completely on donations from individuals and corporations. If you are interested, there are many ways in which you can help us. We are a non-profit 501.c3 organization, which means that all donations are tax deductible. Our service to the animals depends completely on the generosity of the community and our dedicated volunteers. For more information, visit our website at www.dognkittycity.org.

OUR MISSION
Our mission has always been to make life better for animals by:
Rescuing and ministering to the indigent animal population.
Providing shelter, love and medical care for all of our animals until they find a loving home.
Promoting responsible pet ownership.
Providing on-going adoption support services to ensure a lifetime commitment from pet owners.
Eliminating animal cruelty through education.
Helping to reduce animal over-population with low-cost spay/neuter referral programs.
Fostering a respect for all living creatures.
VOLUNTEERING
If you love dogs and cats, we offer plenty of opportunities for you to express this love through our volunteer program. If you long to be around animals, you may be interested in the following:
Dog or Cat Socializer: In this role you would have the chance to walk, groom, play, train, and pet our dogs and cats.
Foster Parent: In this role you would give TLC to adult pets, kittens, puppies, or sick and injured animals in the comfort of your home.
Adopt-A-Pet Assistant: You would assist with adopting dogs and cats at our off-site locations on weekends.
DONATING MADE EASY!
What if Dog & Kitty City earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? Well, now we can!
GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. You use it just as you would any search engine, and it’s powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results.
Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter HUMANE SOCIETY OF DALLAS COUNTY – DOG & KITTY CITY as the charity you want to support. Just 500 of us searching four times a day will raise about $7300 in a year without anyone spending a dime! And, be sure to spread the word!
FERAL CAT & SANCTUARY PROGRAMS
DKC provides assistance to the community in an effort to reduce the feral cat population. If you would like to capture a feral cat in your neighborhood, we offer humane traps for rental. Low-cost spay/neuter certificates and referrals are also available at the shelter.
Unique among shelters, we provide sanctuary for pets that are not good candidates for adoption, such as older or disabled pets, and cats that are FIV or FeLV positive. For the virus positive cats we do everything possible to keep them healthy and make sure they have the kind of attention that keeps them healthy and happy. In spite of their illness, many are quite adoptable, and can live long and comfortable lives as long as the virus stay dormant. Occasionally, we place on of these cats, but most of them have a home with us, and live a good life due to the staff and volunteers.
SUCCESS STORIES
One of our happiest success stories is about Bruno, a senior Doberman Pinscher that was brought to a local vet by one of their customers. The family felt that they no longer had time for Bruno, so they decided to have him euthanized. The vet thought that Bruno was a great dog that still had a lot to offer, so he talked the family into surrendering him to us instead. Quite honestly, we were happy to take Bruno, but we were concerned that there wouldn't be any interest in an eleven-year-old dog. We've never been so happy to be wrong. Within two weeks Bruno had a foster home, and in about two more weeks he found a permanent home with a single female in Kessler Park. Bruno has now been named Buddy, and he gets to sleep inside a nice, comfortable home, and is treated like a king. We're so happy for you Buddy!
Dog and Kitty is open seven days a week from 11:45 - 4:45, except holidays.
