UPDATE - November, 2009: Sampson is an eager to please little guy. He loves to follow you around the house and enjoys curling up and sleeping in bed or on the sofa. Sampson is shy at first but warms up quickly and shows it by sharing his kisses. He wants to be involved with everything you do, including home improvements. He travels fine in a car if he is crated in a large crate that he can see out of. Sampson is not a barker unless he is locked away in a room and can't be with you. He would make an excellent companion for just about any home. He doesn't mind cats and enjoys the company of other dogs as well. Sampson acts just like a puppy and at first glance you wouldn't think otherwise. He is a beautiful little boy with a big heart to share. Please consider giving Sampson the forever home he deserves.

SAMPSON Z-9 came in with 18 other dogs from a puppymill bust in AL. Not all were dachshund but enough were. SAMPSON Z-9 came in sick and with missing teeth from poor care and diet. We have have him on the road to recovery and he's anxious to go to his new home. He is such a sweet boy and so happy to be alive and out of that horrible place. He now has a doggie bed to sleep in or the big bed if he chooses. One this is they can't get enough love. He is working on his housertraining and doing very well. We think he'd be fine with small children that know how to treat animals but not sure about cats. He would need another dog to keep him company and a fenced in yard is a must. Please consider completing SAMPSON Z-9's life by giving him a wonderful forever home.

About Our Rescue Group...
We are a non-profit organization that rescues dachshunds from shelters, owner surrenders and fully vets them including dental and heartworm treated if needed and all health issues addressed before they are put on the website to be adopted. We do this due to the fact that there are so many Dachshunds out there that are bred and brought by people that don't know the breed and after they get the dog home and find out after a couple of months that they can't housebreak the dog and it's not good with their kids, they dump the dog in the shelters or if we are lucky they contacts us. Some Dachshund are not so lucky and get shifted to several homes or are sold to puppymills that bred them into the groud.

You do have to fill out an online adoption application at www.ssdr.org and we will do a phone interview, check your references and vet and we WILL DO a homevisit no matter what state you are in. To adopt a dachshund you must either have a fenced in yard or ALWAYS keep them on leash. These are hunters and if you allow them to run free they will NOT come back or will be hit by a car or attacked by another dog. When you adopt the dog you are giving a two week trail period and if you feel you need more time we are happy to give that to you if you will notify us. We also make you sign a contract that is a legal and binding contract. Once you put in a application to adopt one of our fosters we will try to get back to you as soon as possible. If you have not heard from us in a week please e mail us as your app may have gotten lost. We also have the right to refuse to adopt to anyone that we feel would not make a good home for our Dachshunds. Please remember these dogs have been in at least 2-3 homes possible more and it could take the whole two weeks for them to adjust and possobly longer.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
