Zena came back to us on Sep 26th, 2009. Three years after her adoption, it would appear that her family moved and left her in the backyard! She is a bit thin. However, with some good food in her tummy she will be just fine. Zena, rides in the car well, walks lovely on a leash, and seems to be good around other dogs and cats. She has been in foster care fora bout a week now and appears house trained.
Zena should be good around children of all ages with appropriate supervision. We would never recommend this size of dog to be left unattended with a child small enough to be easily knocked over, based solely on the dog’s (Zena’s) extra large size. Below are the notes from when Zena was first at our rescue. Date of Birth (whelped): 04/02/06
Meet Zena, a purebred Saint Bernard.
This pup is being surrender to A.P.E. from a breeder that was unable to sell the pup. There is nothing wrong with this pup. The breeder has not been able to sell all of her pups due to her own health problems. The breeder of this litter realizes that raising pups is hard work and time consuming, very difficult to due when you have your own health concerns. Not to mention it requires a lot of money to keep a large litter fed, as many responsible breeders will tell you, breeding dogs and doing it right is not money making, but typically yields a negative profit!
These pups are outgoing, good around other dogs, and friendly. The pups are working on crate training and leash walking. Did we mention that they are of champion/show dog lines!
Please remember every animal for adoption through A.P.E. is fully vetted for their age and only needs routine preventive care. Dogs older then 6 months of age are heartworm tested, all dogs are vaccinated (age appropriate), micro-chipped, de-wormed, in addition to being spayed/neutered.
The adoption fee for this dog is set at $200, which includes: $100 placement fee, a $75 tax-deductible donation (to offset other dogs higher then normal medical cost) and a $25 rebate upon successful completion of basic obedience training.
