Arrival story: Cheyna's time was up at a rural shelter and she was about to be euthanized.
Approximate age / weight: Cheyna is about 3 years old and 55 lbs. She looks like a small white German Shepherd, but we think she is a mix because of her size. Personality: 9/28/09 - She gets along with all the dogs at her foster home, and she doesn't appear to be overly interested in the cats. She does seem to want to protect her food from other dogs, but that is expected given the rough start she had.
Cheyna has had several litters in her short life and had lost a lot of her fur in the process from hormonal changes and poor nutrition. The vet thinks her hair will grow back now that she is getting proper care.
Cheyna is good in her crate and is thrilled to finally be in a place where her needs are being met! She is very affectionate and seems to have a mild temperament. Cheyna has been initially shy meeting new people but warms up to them very quickly. She seems to know sit and gives you her paw. She walks nicely on a leash, too.
Cheyna seems to get car sick sometimes and needs a family who is willing to work on this. It may be that she had never been in a car before and just needs to get used to the motion.
Update 10/13/09 - Cheyna has blossomed in foster care. Her hair is growing back in nicely and she has discovered a love of toys! She is very sweet and affectionate. The past 4 car rides have gone well, so maybe she just needed to get used to being in a car. She is housetrained, crate trained, and just a great companion. Forever home: Her ideal home would have a fenced in yard and probably children over the age of 7 since she may knock smaller children down or scratch them with her paws (unintentionally!).
