Joy was found in a dumpster with a head injury. Can you imagine that, the poor thing! Someone was kind enough to rescue her and bring her into our shelter so she can find a home where she will be loved and cared for. She is a friendly kitty who loves to petted and and get attention. She is very talkative when she is being petted. She is about 1 year old and weighs about 9 lbs. The wound on her head is healing up now and she is ready to go to her forever home.

All cats/kittens at our shelter have had a complete health exam, are spayed/neutered, given all age appropriate shots and tested for feline leukemia. The adoption fee also includes microchipping so if your kitty gets lost your contact information can be retrieved by a vet or animal control and your pet can be returned home to you!

The Toledo Area Humane Society was founded on February 14, 1884. As one of the first humane societies in the United States, our original purpose was to prevent cruelty and provide refuge for both animals and children. To this day, we investigate cruelty to animals and provide homeless, abused and abandoned animals with protection and safety. TAHS is a private, non-profit organization and receives no funding from the United Way, the government, or national humane organizations. Donations from local individuals, corporations and generated by our fundraisers are the sole source of funding. Programs like Forever Friends, for people who include TAHS in their wills, and the Golden Paw League, for people who give gifts of $100 or more, have been established to give people donation options and to recognize their generosity. Volunteers help supplement the staff assisting with tasks both inside and outside of our facility. Volunteers provide enrichment for animals such as walking dogs or socializing cats. The Humane Education and Pet Therapy Visitation programs are dependent on our volunteers. Foster care volunteers provide a safe, nurturing environment for animals too young for adoption and for sick or injured animals. It is our goal to help every animal at-risk for abandonment or cruelty, and to find a home for every adoptable animal. The Humane Society is the only animal welfare group in this community who will give refuge to any animal at-risk for abuse or neglect, regardless of its type, health, age or whether we have space.
The Toledo Area Humane Society offers adoptions at our main office at 1920 Indianwood Circle in Maumee as well as one of our several off site locations. We display adoptable animals at Petco and PetSmart.
Our Adoption Process...
Upon arrival, each animal will receive a health check and a temperament/ behavior evaluation. Once the animal is deemed healthy and safe, she will be spayed by our in-house veterinarian and put up for adoption. Adoption fees start at $50.00. All of our animals receive age appropriate vaccinations, flea treatment, worming and microchipping. The adoption process takes about an hour. This allows time for bonding, explanation of medical records and our adoption agreement. This also gives us time to answer any questions our Adopters might have. Adopters will need a valid photo ID, must be 18 years of age, and have landlord authorization if dwelling is a rental property. Most Likely. If the animal has already been neutered you can take it home that day. If the animal has not yet been neutered it will have to stay until the next business day when the vet is in. All adopted animals must be neutered before they go home.
