Meet Veronica. If there was a survivor game for cats, she would win. She came to us after we received a call that some pitiless people at a riding arena were trying to have her killed because she was yet again pregnant. We were told that Veronica has had multiple litters, and rather than having her spayed, the convenient thing was to either shoot her or catch her in a cat trap and drown her. Sadly this is a reality for many barn cats..... The evening the volunteers brought in Veronica she was in bad shape. She was the size of a balloon waiting to burst at any given moment. Sure enough, one day later, she gave birth to 8 little kittens. To makes things worse Veronica suffered from a large ulcer on her face that needed to be lanced, as she could no longer eat. So, with all of her new born kittens in a box we rushed her to the vet to receive proper treatment. With a barely functioning mouth she still seemed to pull though and feed all of her new babies. Unfortunately one kitty did not pull through which seems to be common with such a large litter. Veronica is still nursing her young, but in 2 short weeks she will be looking for a place to call home. It would be wonderful if she could find a home with one of her young since she fought so hard to care for them. Contact RJ 403-837-7442 or email rjbailot@gmail.com |
