Adopted by one of our forever families! Born on May 1, 2009, Ryker is accustomed to living in a home environment with other Keeshonden and a six year old boy. We will update Ryker's bio as we evaluate him and he shares his likes and dislikes. Please watch for new photos and updates!
UPDATE-11/30/09: Ryker's foster mom wrote: 'Ryker is an active dog that LOVES the dog park. I go nearly every night where Ryker meets up with his favorite pal’s Ernie and Jack. Ernie is a Lab that just wiggles his way through the park giving kisses with Ryker at his side while Jack is a Terrier mix that can run a mile a minute. Jack and Ryker chase each other taking turns being the leader until both drop to their bellies in exhaustion. At home Ryker can get Rosie to play along with his puppy wrestling ways. Rosie is older and bigger and mostly just rolls to her back while Ryker bounces all around her until she finally joins in the fun. Ryker is respectful of the other dogs that can not or do not want to play. He will SIT and STAY but will need more training. He has learned to eat out of his bowl ONLY and uses the doggie door to go potty outside. He is a sweetie that likes to be petted. He has gotten used to feedings twice a day, walks and sleeping on the bed. He is good meeting both new people and new dogs. But Ryker does need reminding not to jump up on people. Ryker has a soft soft coat that everyone loves to pet and when they do they get sweet Keesie kisses.' We believe that pet training is key to developing a happy, healthy and socially adjusted family member--on January 9, 2009, Ryker's foster mom enrolled him in positive reinforcement training classes with an accredited pet training instructor.
Thinking about adopting a Keeshond? Please visit our website at http://www.foreverkees.org for details on our adoption process. Please download an adoption application--we limit adoptions to the Southern California area.
Our dogs come to us from private owners and animal shelters. We work with potential adoptive families to find each dog the right forever home. We rarely have young purebred puppies available for adoption--young dogs are in high demand and they typically have several interested families wanting to adopt them.
