BEING FOSTERED IN Madison, MS

Cassie is simply the sweetest and smartest dog we have fostered.  We are enjoying our time with her, because we doubt she will take long to find a forever home. Cassie was rescued from a shelter in Arkansas.  She is EXTREMELY affectionate and easy-going.  She doesn't wag her tail, she wags her whole body.  She loves everybody and won't hesitate to roll over for a belly rub, or ask to be carried around on her back like a baby. The look on her face when you pet her is total and complete adoration.  Cassie is so grateful for being rescued and will absolutely steal the hearts of everyone in the family.  She craves attention and she will follow you around everywhere.  She's also a face-licker, if you give her a chance. Bottom line, she is just a big, cuddly bundle of happy dog.

She seems to have been owned by a household before, because she knows some basic 'sit' and 'stay' commands and will jump in the car to go for a ride if you open the door.  She is fine with a dog bed, but loves getting in the big bed, too.  She'll lay across your feet, but loves to sit with you on the couch. She is very trainable and well-behaved.

At first Cassie would come to us to let us know when she wanted to go out, but is currently in a home with a dog door to get to the fenced back yard, which she uses.  She takes to things quite well-she didn't know how to use the doggy stairs to get on the couch, but after being shown once, she got the idea.

Cassie barks when someone comes to the door but stops when told.  She has an intimidating bark for a dog her size, and has scared a couple of deliverymen who were expecting to see a fierce doberman! Her coat is very shiny, she hears and sees great and does not have any health problems that we are aware of.

Cassie has a medium amount of energy - she likes to go for walks, but is also OK just hanging around the house. She does like to play.  She is a big standard, so you can wrestle around with her a little more than usual. She would prefer to be with her humans, and will whine when left home alone, but has not chewed or damaged anything.  She likes to carry a toy around in her mouth, which is very cute.

She would be an ideal dog for any situation: kids, other pets, an older person, or a first-time owner.  She doesn't have any special needs and adapts quickly. She would be happiest in a home where she has lots of love and petting, and can spend lots of time with her new humans.

About Our Rescue Group...
We are a non-profit organization that rescues dachshunds from shelters, owner surrenders and fully vets them including dental and heartworm treated if needed and all health issues addressed before they are put on the website to be adopted. We do this due to the fact that there are so many Dachshunds out there that are bred and brought by people that don't know the breed and after they get the dog home and find out after a couple of months that they can't housebreak the dog and it's not good with their kids, they dump the dog in the shelters or if we are lucky they contacts us. Some Dachshund are not so lucky and get shifted to several homes or are sold to puppymills that bred them into the groud.

You do have to fill out an online adoption application at www.ssdr.org and we will do a phone interview, check your references and vet and we WILL DO a homevisit no matter what state you are in. To adopt a dachshund you must either have a fenced in yard or ALWAYS keep them on leash. These are hunters and if you allow them to run free they will NOT come back or will be hit by a car or attacked by another dog. When you adopt the dog you are giving a two week trail period and if you feel you need more time we are happy to give that to you if you will notify us. We also make you sign a contract that is a legal and binding contract. Once you put in a application to adopt one of our fosters we will try to get back to you as soon as possible. If you have not heard from us in a week please e mail us as your app may have gotten lost. We also have the right to refuse to adopt to anyone that we feel would not make a good home for our Dachshunds. Please remember these dogs have been in at least 2-3 homes possible more and it could take the whole two weeks for them to adjust and possobly longer.
