We are not a shelter. We are a group of concerned pet owners that came together to rescue dogs from municipal kill shelters in rural counties. HART is a licensed rescue that is a Non-Profit 501(c)3 group and is run by an all volunteer staff.
Once we rescue a dog from the kill facility, it is placed in the care of one of our loving foster homes in Northeastern Illinois.
To meet one of our sweet dogs or for more information on a particular dog, please contact Jill at thedoglover@att.net. To expedite your request, please download and complete an Adoption Application in full and return to Jill at thedoglover@att.net. Once your application is reviewed, we will put you in contact with the dog's foster home to set up a time to meet the pooch of your choice!You may not get an immediate response as we get tied up when saving dogs from euthanasia, often just days or hours before they are scheduled to be put to sleep. This takes a lot of coordination when done from out of state. Due to the high volume of inquiries we receive, It is not unusual for us to take several days to respond. Its not that we do not appreciate you because we LOVE our adopters! Things just take longer for all volunteer organizations so we appreciate your patience and understanding.
