Haus's story...
Please contact Georgette (han.nah@sympatico.ca) for more information about this pet.

Haus is loosing his home through no fault of his own and due to allergies. Haus is presently living with his owner in Aylmer, Ontario and we are trying to help his owner find him a permanent home.

Here is some information about Haus:

How long have you owned this animal? 6yrs

Please describe the area that the dog has been in: busy city, country, suburb? He has been living in a small town, with a fenced in yard.

Why are you wanting to rehome this dog? I’m moving and can’t take him with me.  Where I’m moving there will be a child and she is allergic to dogs (and he isn’t good with kids)

Is this dog a house pet? Yes

Is he/she housetrained? Yes

Does he/she ever have housetraining issues? no

How do you handle housetraining errors? I have never had to handle housetraining issues with Haus.

Does the dog chew or scratch household items? No

Does the dog dig holes? No

Does he/she try and get over or under fences? He can jump a fence (my fence is 6ft high)

Does he/she get into the garbage? If there is food he may try.

Is he/she good with children of all ages? No

What ages of children was he/she living with? I don’t’ have children and he isn’t good with kids.

Is he/she good with cats? No

Is he/she good with other dogs? Large and small dogs? He is very jumpy and intimidates other dogs.  He should meet the other dog (it should be a female).

Is he/she crate trained? Yes

Has he/she ever shown aggression to anyone or anything? Small animals, and could show aggression towards children as he was teased by children until he came to live with me.

Has he/she ever bitten in the past? Not that I’m aware of.

Has he/she been exposed to livestock or horses? no

What is the dog's general temperament? Excitable but can be very calm and lazy around the house.  He will do the best in a house where there is little excitement.  He gets very excited around people trying to play with him or kids.  He will jump trying to play but is too big and could hurt someone.  While I’m home he lays around and sleeps but is very cuddly and loving.  He loves walks and loves to be around people.  For the most part he is very calm and peacefull.  He is content to look out the window or lie in his crate (his choice) and sleep.

How does the dog react to strangers? He loves people but is very excitable.  Once the excitement is over he calms down and is the peacefull loving dog at home.

Does he/she have any health problems? NO

What is used for flea prevention? He doesn’t usually get fleas.  I’ve never had a flea problem with him.

Has he/she been heartworm tested? If yes, when and what is used for heartworm  prevention? Yes he has been tested for heartworm and Sentinal is used for prevention.

Is he/she up to date on shots? Yes

Is he/she spayed/neutered? yes

Where is the animal kept during the day? He is ok to roam the house.  He doesn’t chew or get into thing.

Where is it kept at night? He has free roam of the house at night as well.

How long is this animal generally left alone in a day? He can be left alone up to 8hrs when I have to work.  Although some days I’m home all day.  He is used to me going to work for the whole day.

How is his/her behaviour when left alone?  He sleeps.  He has never chewed or soiled in the house.

Is he/she ever kept outside, and if so, for how long? He is usually left out for as long as he wants to.  Sometimes he will stay out for an hour, then sometimes he just goes outside to the washroom.

Is he/she used to being chained or kennelled or running free? He is used to running free outside, but has spent time in a kennel.

Have you ever boarded the dog or had a pet sitter out of your home environment? Yes.

What is the dog being fed? Nutrience

Is it free fed? No.  He is fed in the morning and once at night.

How much per day? 3-4 cups a day/.

Has he/she ever shown any aggression around food? Not with me.

Does he/she chase after cars, or horses and buggies or bicycles or people? If given the chance off leash or running free he may.

Does the dog ride well in the car? yes

Which games does the dog play? He doesn’t play really.  He jumps when you play fetch or tug of war.

Has he/she ever guarded toys or items? no

What commands does he/she know? Sit, stay.

Has he/she ever been enrolled in obedience training? If so when and how many  classes were attended? Was the course completed? No I have never taken him to obedience.

Does he/she have any behavioural problems? If yes, please explain in detail.  Haus was with another family from the time he was a puppy till I got him.  The family had two boys who taunted and teased Haus.  He was tied up to a chain outside for the most part as well.  He seems to get excitable to the point he wants to pounce on childrem due to his early memories.  This along with his aggression towards small animals of any kind.

Please Note:

We are all volunteers and busy taking care of our foster dogs so please take the time to fill out our o-nline adoption application if you are interested in more information about any of the hounds that we have for adoption. Filling out our application does not obligate you to adopt in any way.  It does, however, help us to determine if the dog that your interested in would be a good match for your family and lifestyle.

LOCATION:     Haus is currently living with his owner in Aylmer , ON.

If you would like to give this beautiful boy a forever home please fill out our on line adoption application at ADOPTION APPLICATION

About Our Rescue Group...
Canadian Hound Rescue is dedicated to promoting responsible hound ownership. Many of the hounds that end up in shelters or rescue are abandoned hunting dogs that were previously tied to a doghouse outside for most of the year, only to be let loose during hunting season. We believe that no hound should have to suffer such a fate, and will place hounds as indoor pets only. Since many of our hounds have never lived in a house before, all dogs are initially placed in foster homes where they are housetrained and learn basic house manners. While in foster care our hounds are also spayed or neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, and provided with any necessary medical care. Finally, their temperament and personality are evaluated so that we can find the best possible match between each individual hound and its adoptive home.

Come Meet Our Pets...
If you would like to meet one of our hounds please contact us as they are located in foster homes throughout Ontario. We always need more foster homes. Fostering is essential to Canadian Hound Rescue in saving hounds and keeping our rescue going. The more homes we have, the more dogs we can save.
Our Adoption Process...
All adoptive homes are required to go through a screening process that includes a telephone interview, filling out an application, reference checks and a home visit. An adoption fee is required to offset some of the costs incurred in caring for and re-homing each hound. Canadian Hound Rescue remains committed to each animal for the rest of its life and if, at any time and for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the hound be returned to us.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Canadian Hound Rescue is a small, not-for-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to helping homeless and abandoned hounds find loving and permanent homes as indoor pets. We mainly operate in Ontario, but have volunteers in other provinces as well. We rescue all breeds of coonhounds including the Black and Tan, Bluetick, Redbone, English, Plott Hound, and Treeing Walker Coonhounds. We also rescue Bloodhounds and hound mixes.

Humane America Animal Foundation, dba Adopt-a-Pet.com, is a non-profit, tax-deductible 501(c)(3) adoption advertising charity. Our mission (and passion) is to help get homeless pets out of the shelters and into loving homes. Let us know what you think! Suggestion & Comment Box
