| UPDATE 11/6/09 - Spanky had his perineal hernia and neuter surgery done yesterday and came through with flying colors. He is currently resting in his foster home and dreaming of a home of his own for the holidays. November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month - let's get Spanky a Home for the Holidays! At twelve years old Spanky found himself alone and sitting in a cold concrete run after his owners abandoned him at the shelter for “being too old.” The strange smells and loud noise of the shelter frightened Spanky causing him to growl whenever someone approached his cage. Boston Buddies had seen this happen to dogs in the shelter before and we knew we could not leave Spanky in the shelter to die so when another rescue turned their back on Spanky we worked with the shelter personnel to gain his freedom. Once he was out of the shelter and had been given some time to sleep in a quiet and safe place and begin to trust his foster mom Spanky came alive and his true personality began to come shining through. Underneath the fear (and fleas) of the shelter was a sweet Boston boy who loves to play ball. Spanky will fetch a ball and bring it back and drop it at your feet for hours on end – if you play ball with Spanky he will love you forever! After he has a chance to get to know you (and playing ball is a great way to get to know him) Spanky will greet you with a happy smile on his face and a little wiggle to his Boston behind. Spanky weighs 25 lbs, is housebroken, up to date on shots, heartworm and fecal tested (both negative) and micro chipped. Spanky was not neutered when he was left at the shelter which likely led to his developing bilateral perineal hernias (a condition that is found in intact middle aged and older dogs caused by prostate enlargement due to the dog not being neutered). Boston Buddies will have the hernias repaired by a surgical specialist and will have Spanky neutered at that time. We need to wait until Spanky is fully recovered from the runny nose he acquired during his stay at the shelter. Spanky has a lot of ball playing ahead of him and he has a lot of love left to give a family that will show him the love and commitment that his previous owners (we won’t call them family) did not. Are you the family that will restore Spanky’s faith in humanity and promise him that he won’t ever be abandoned again? Download an Application at www.bostonbuddies.org. Adoption Donation: $200 |
