| 09-14-09 George is 3 years old, weighs 16 lbs., is chestnut red in color, a very handsome young fur-man. He was taken to the vet with an eye disease which may require removal of his eyes. His owner was unable to keep him. Doc felt he would be a dandy special needs fur-kid in our rescue. Thus he contacted our foster mom for assistance. This is a special needs boy and in every way a VERY SPECIAL little dog!! This little guy is just a cupcake...read on and fall in love! You may copy/paste the following links into your browser to learn more about this breed: http://www.petfinder.com/dog-breeds/Cavalier-King-Charles-Spaniel http://dogbreedinfo.com/cavalierkingcharlesspaniel.htm George was neutered while his eye surgery was done. Any vaccinations needing updated will be done. He is on preventatives, is said to be a very sweet boy. He will remain overnight at the clinic. Going from a sighted pet to a blind pet will take a few days of adjustment. Our experience with blind dogs is that they need a bit of time to adjust, then you may never even know they have vision problems. Please do NOT feel sorry for George. He will adapt. We will place this fur-kid in foster care following his overnight recuperation from surgery. The foster updates on his/her likes & dislikes will help you know if this fur-kid is suitable for your home. The foster has a very important job, evaluating, loving, letting go to make room for another fur-kid at risk. 09-15 George is now in foster care, resting comfortably. His eyes were very enlarged, evident discomfort. Doc made the decision to give an injection which will cause the eyes to dry up. Foster mom will keep a close eye on his recovery, put ointment in the eyes to help with his discomfort. Doc may need to remove the eyes at a later date. For now, watch & wait, keep him comfy. George is a very handsome fur-kid. He is not scared even though his entire world has been turned upside down. He will do fine with time & patience. 09-21 George is doing great my vet feels he has not been sited for a very long time.He is so very friendly wags that tail when he hears my voice I am going to start working on voice commands now that he comes to my voice. I think this is a very smart boy just needs the right family that will love and care for him just the way he is. What a good boy. He will go in this week for a groom to make him feel special like I know he is.
09-23 George had his make-over at the vet clinic. It's amazing what a bath & massage will do for a fur-kid! 09-25 George has a "Fairy DogFather" to help with his medical expense. We cross our paws that the injections work.. If it takes removal of the eyes to bring him total comfort then that may be the course of action Doc takes. We bow to his expertise. 09-26- George is just a delite to foster he always wags that long flowing tail when I talk to him .His eyes seem to be better in that they are not bulging out as bad. We are still using ointment and they look better he will never see but oh what a happy boy. I worked with him a bit tonight on commands like "George, come." I think he did very well.I really feel in time this boy will show us how smart he is. He gets along well with other dogs they just need to be very gentle dogs as he cannot defend himself. He is doing well with his crate training wish all foster furkids were as sweet and easy as George is .What a gentleman he is.
10-23 George is crate trained, knows his name, comes when called, listens for sound, is doing very well, reaches out to feel his way, gets annoyed with the puppies in his face. He does get along well with the other fur-kids. He likes to be held, has learned the rescue routine. He will make a wonderful house pet, likes everyone, should even do well with children that have been taught kindness to pets. The foster mom does believe that he has some limited vision, sees large bright objects. He is not a barker, will only bark at a bright object approaching him such as a large white duck or the large white fur-kid. He doesn't bark at the gray geese or the dark pot bellied pig. -------------------------------- The adoption fee ranges from $75 to $325. The fee is based upon veterinary care, age & size of dog.
