Shasta's story...
Shasta is a sweet dog but will not do well in a home with young children and can have disagreements with some dogs. Otherwise she is very friendly playful and outgoing. Shasta is carrying a few extra pounds and so she will need to be on a weight control diet. She walks well on leash and is a favorite among our dog walkers.
"The Malamute retains more of its original form and function than many other modern breeds. If a dog owner cannot cope with a dog that will not comply with the owner's every command a more compliant breed should be selected. This dog has a long genetic foundation of living in the harshest environment imaginable and many of its behaviors are evolved to conform with 'survival of the fittest.' Independence resourcefulness and primitive behaviors are common in the breed. Due to their naturally evolved beginnings the malamute tends to have a heightened prey drive when compared to some other breeds of dog. So while Malamutes are as a general rule particularly amiable around people and can be taught to tolerate other pets it is necessary to be mindful of them around smaller animals and young children."

About Our Shelter...
See our website at www.spca.bc.ca/quesnel for all of our current adoption prices, hours of operation, etc.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
