Hazel's Info...
| Breed: | Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) Mix | Color: | Tan/Yellow/Fawn - With White | Age: | Adult |
| Size: | Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less | Sex: | Female |
I am already spayed, housetrained, and up to date with shots.
UPDATE: Hazel continues to do beautifully in her foster home. She lives with 4 other dogs! She loves full attention and probably would be wonderful as an only dog, as well. Hazel is small, loves to cuddle and loves to be petted. She was at Mingle with the Mutts yesterday enjoying being pet by many!
11/3/09: Hazel was adopted in May, 2009 and until recently was fine with the family's toddler. Now she is giving warning growls when he approaches her. The family is expecting another baby and are concerned long-term with Hazel and toddlers. Hazel has had no problems with any other humans or dogs! She is housebroken, cuddly and a joy to be around. We are looking for another home for Hazel. She currently lives with two other dogs, 1 male, 1 female, several children and two adults. The only issue has been with the toddler.
UPDATE: 5/5/2009: This is SUCH a sweet, little girl! She has the cutest underbite and all she wants to do is lie on her back and get her belly rubbed. Hazel is barely 30 lbs. Our best guess is terrier mix, however she is one dog that would merit DNA tasting! It is very hard to decipher her breed but she is a very special little girl.
Hazel is new to our program as of 5/1/2009. Here is what a volunteer at the shelter where she is from had to say:
When I first met Hazel I thought she was a real sweetie and hated that she had to spend any time at all in the pound. Before her trip today, she spent 20 minutes on my lap getting rubbed, scratched, and petted and I think that's all she wants out of life. My guess is she will be very grateful to whomever takes her in as soon as she feels secure and understands that she is home for good.
Watch for more information as we get to know her!
Hazel's adoption fee is $175, which includes all vetting (spay/neuter, all vaccinations including rabies, heartworm test & started on prevention), started on flea/tick prevention, micro-chip and a leash & collar. Assessment - Matching the Dog and the Adopter
Adopter discusses the dog or cat of choice with an STS adoption specialist.
The STS adoption specialist discusses needs and temperament of dog with individual/family.
Both needs of the dog or cat and and the criteria of the family are very carefully assessed to assure the best match possible. Items considered include:
Temperament and age of dog or cat
Veterinary/health needs of dog or cat
Individual/families desires and perception of the perfect pet
(no match is “perfect” but STS strives for the best match possible)
Ability of individual/family to meet the veterinary, daily-living, behavioral and emotional needs of the dog or cat.
STS visits the home of any adoptive family. If the family lives out of state, STS may arrange for another local rescue to conduct the home visit.
Other means of assessment include:
Veterinary reference
Personal references by two to three individuals who know the adopter and the adopter’s capability to provide a loving home for an animal
