My name is Roxie and I was rescued from a life as a breeder. I was kept in a kennel with very little socialization with humans. It has been some work, but I have discovered that humans are not so bad after all. I will still shy away from sudden movements, but have come a looooong way from where I was back when I came here in September. I don't much like strangers, but will not go near them. I will just go into another room and bark at you. Since I was a kennel dog, I have never been on a leash, nor have I been housetrained. I am still afraid to go outside, so I have learned to go on potty pads. I will come up to you for attention and I have learned that treats from a human hand is OK too. It took a couple of months to learn that. I am about 5 years old and can learn more things from someone who is willing to be patient and teach me. I will need to be spayed prior to adoption and my adoption fee is $125. If you would be willing to provide me with a loving, patient and kind home, please email 2ndchanceanimalrescue@embarqmail.com or call 660-885-3931 for more information. A vet reference is required prior to consideration for adoption.
08/10/2009 -- Roxie is learning how to play and has discovered that going outside is a pretty neat thing. She now likes to go outside and play in the yard with some of the other fosters. She has mastered stairs, both up and down and now runs around almost like any other dog. She will also do her business, although she will still use the potty pads too.
Our adoption fee ranges from $75 to $200. Puppies, in general, will be adopted at a higher fee because we feel that we have provided you with a companion for many years to come at very little expense to you. The fee will also help our special needs dogs receive the medical care they desperately need.
When inquiring about a dog you are interested in, please provide your vet's information as well as information about you and why you are interested in the dog. Many of our dogs come from less than desirable situations and the more information you can provide will help us ensure that any dog that leaves our care will receive the same care in his/her new home.
We do not make guarantees that any of our dogs our housetrained. We do work with them as best we can, but even if we have no accidents, it will take a new dog a couple of weeks to adjust to your routine. We also do not leash train as we like for the new owner to bond with their new dog and work with them to create a level of trust with their new dog.

Rescue Group Info...
We are 5 ladies that volunteered at the local shelter. They have a contract with the city to only take in stray animals within the city limits. There are no policies in place to accept owner surrenders or dogs that have been dumped outside the city limits. We created 2nd Chance to fill that void, because we saw needless euthanization of healthy animals because their owners could no longer take care of their beloved pets. We truly love dogs and want to find the right dog the right home.
Puppies and dogs 6 years or less are $125 - $250
Senior dogs are adopted for $75
We do have an adoption contract for each adopter to fill out and sign.
A vet reference, and in certain circumstances, a personal reference is required prior to consideration for adoption. Circumstances requiring a personal reference include, but are not limited to, a special needs dog, a puppymill dog or a dog that came from an abusive situation.
We serve the Clinton Missouri and surrounding area in Henry County, although our adoptions have been known to reach the state of Maine. There is no distance to great to find the right dog the right home!
