Tally's Info...
| Breed: | Australian Shepherd/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) Mix | Color: | Black - With White | Age: | Young |
| Size: | Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg) | Sex: | Female |
I am already spayed, up to date with shots, and good with dogs.
Tally is an affectionate girl. She walks well on leash, although she does sometime react to passing cars, and tries to chase them. We are working on this behavior. Tally likes to swim, and may be a good beach dog. She is housetrained, and good with most other dogs. Tally is a dominant dog, and will need to be adopted by someone who has good "pack leader" skills. That is, showing her who is in charge by not rewarding excited behavior, making her wait to enter and exit rooms until after her "pack leader", has entered or exitted, and requiring her to walk on leash in the proper "pack follower" position. Tally comes well to her name, and has some basic obedience skills.

Rescue Group Info...
Dog Rescue Network is a grassroots rescue effort. All dogs are fostered in private homes until an appropriate, permanent home is found for each dog. We do not receive any funding except adoption fees. We are ABSOLUTELY no-kill.
TO ADOPT FROM US
1) You must have a securely fenced yard, with closing gates, ATTACHED to your house.
2) You must walk your dog,ON LEASH,at least 30-60 minutes a day.
3) You must allow the dog to sleep IN THE HOUSE,(not the garage) Our dogs are all crate trained for this purpose.
4) You must furnish your own ID tag to place on the dog at the time of adoption. It must include address, phone number, cell number, etc.
We generally only adopt to areas around San Luis Obispo County. We feel very strongly that there are dogs in jeopardy in EVERY community. We encourage people to adopt from pounds and rescuers in your own community and therefore save a life that we cannot.
We are absolutely no-kill.
Foster dogs live in foster care until they are adopted. Almost all our dogs are rescued from high-kill animal shelters. Each is spayed/neutered, and vaccinated. All of our dogs are crate trained and sleep in the house at night. All are exercised daily. Usually for 45-60 minutes a day. Exercise is the key to a well behaved dog. A tired dog is a calm, easy to train dog. The dogs run together as a pack. Off leash. They are required to get along. No exceptions. Establishing yourself as the "pack leader" is essential to a well behaved dog. On leash, the dog must walk in a heel position, or behind you. If you are leading, you are the leader. If they are leading, they are the leader. Which do you want to be? There are no bad dogs. Only bad/misinformed dog owners. Unfortunately for the dogs, they pay for their previous owners mistakes/disinterest with their lives. A civilized society should not accept this as a "fact of life". Hopefully we will all see the day when animals are not bred for profit. Hopefully we will see the day when their lives are accepted as valuable, no matter what their breed or mix.

The adoption fee is usually $175.00. It helps covers the costs of getting dogs out of the pound, getting them spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and well fed. There is an adoption contract which, among other things, requires you to return the dog if for some reason you can no longer keep it. There is no deadline on that requirement. It is for the life of the dog. You must also have a securely fenced yard, attached to the house. All the dogs are crate trained, and must be allowed to sleep in the house at night. No exceptions. All your other pets must be spayed/neutered. This indicates that you are a responsible pet owner with all your pets. Our fosters are pets. They generally have not been used as working/hunting dogs. We are looking for great homes that will commit to our foster dogs for the rest of their lives. Please contact us if you feel you can provide that. If you are some distance from Atascadero, we ask that you check the local pounds and shelters in your area, as there are fabulous dogs there that are running out of time. That is where our dogs come from. We can only save a few. Any pet you adopt from a pound or shelter is a life saved.
