Chico's Story...
OK-forget the breed listing, we have no clue what this dog is! Just listed two big breeds, because he is, a big boy! Thought that people who like big dogs, would at least get a look at him. He is big, but a good boy. Stands on his dog house, and hangs over the top of the 6 foot kennel, and watches us, while we are working! He was adopted out once, did great living inside, for about two weeks, and then, had a hot spot, and when the owner tried to put some meds on it, he says, he snapped at him. We don't know the whole story. The wife, in this case was the dog lover, and she was devastated, but the husband, refused to keep him. Well, in our opinion, not many dogs, want you to mess with something that hurts, so, you have to approach it with a little caution, but, that was it, He would not keep him. It was very sad, they had just sent pictures of the husband rolling on the floor and playing with him, saying what a wonderful dog he was and then, suddenly-it was over. He runs and plays well with other dogs. Puts up with a lot of dogs that jump on him, they worry him, much more than he messes with them. And he tolerates them with no problem He is "people" oriented. Prefers to be with you, or to eat, than to play. If you like big boys, this is a great dog! I would be wary of him with small children, just due to his size. I am going to say, experienced dog owner, just due to the past incident, but, we don't see any problem with him, other than we have him on fish oil, because, he has a tendancy to get hot spots. but this cold dry winter, could well be the cause.

About Our Rescue Group...
Down East Animal Refuge is located in Scotland Neck, NC. We are a small group of dedicated people who are determined to make a difference in the life of animals. We have been in existance about five and a half years. In this time we have worked very hard and have rescued over 200 dogs. All of our dogs are spayed and neutered, and are current on shots and heartworm preventative. We are fortunate to have been selected to participate in the first prison/shelter partnership in NC called "A New Leash on Life". In this program, medium custody inmates at Caledonia Prison were carefully selected and taught to teach basic obedience to dogs. This has been a wonderful program that does as much for the inmates as it does for the dogs. All trainers keep a daily diary of the activities, likes and dislikes, and training done on each dog.
Many of our dogs have done this program successfully.
