Sierra's Story...
Hi everyone, my name is Sierra. I'm a busy gal and am looking for a person or two who can keep up with me. I want to chase anything moving , including (but not limited to) all furry and feathered creatures, people, bicycles, water skiers, insects, etc. – although my foster mom is still working hard to curb this enthusiastic trait. Translation: I’ll need your full attention (experience with headstrong doggies like me would be beneficial) and to be your one and only dog. (I want all dogs to bow down to me, and if they don’t I can get quite pushy and controlling. In fact, I want everyone to look to me as the head honcho.)

My sad history before coming to the rescue included being attacked by other dogs twice while walking on a leash with my owner in our neighborhood. Now, I tend to assume an attack is coming and fearfully go into self-protection mode when approached by another dog when I'm on a leash. I'd really love a home in a rural area where I can exercise safely and without fear. I really don't want to be hurt again, that was not fun.

I’m your typical want-to-be-with-you weimie. I have the typical Weim traits like looking for goodies on the counter and in the garbage (I'll take it out for you...one piece at at time!).

I can also make sure your backyard is free from any furry creatures that may visit to eat your flowers and veggie plants. You could say I'm the ultimate "organic" pest-controller! It's probably best if I go to a home without small furry things residing in it.

I’m used to being around big people (teenagers+) and would do best in an adult-only home . I say this just because I like to chase anything that’s running (and is littler than I am). Parents don't always appreciate my attempts to help keep the kids orderly with my nips to ensure submission if they get too rowdy. Go figure.

I can be crated at night, but it’s not my favorite place...that would be on the floor right next to your bed (or after you’re asleep, sneaking up on the bed). You may want to consider crating me during the day though unless your home and garbage are truly Weim-proofed!

They say I have a goofy side since I like to lay upside down and enjoy a good roll in the grass or on the carpet. I will also follow you around the house with my stuffie to show you how very proud I am of my "catch". I will also entertain you with my "woowooing" when I want your attention or for you to step it up when putting my food bowl down (can you say very melodic train wail?).
I’ll always be testing you to see how much I can get away with. In return for your diligence, I will cuddle with you on the couch and at night in your bed, be a great watch dog, keep you company on card rides and make sure you’re well-exercised. I am eight healthy years young and I LOVE TO RUN!! I would make a great jogging partner!

Speaking of my health, I was born with a “fold” in my bladder which means I can’t always empty completely but a pill twice a day does a good job of controlling that. I am otherwise house trained.

I learned to swim and fish last year so a trip to the water once in a while would be SO much fun. I will also give you the privilege of giving me belly rubs, which puts me into a blissful trance….please don’t stop!

I've got a lot to give, are you ready????? Let's go, go go!

About Our Rescue Group...
Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is an all-volunteer, nonprofit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue & placement of Weims in the Great Lakes region; including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario.

Dogs that enter our rescue/recovery program are placed into our foster care network which provides a stable, loving family environment. Each dog's medical & emotional needs are provided for as they wait for their new "forever" home. We believe that every dog deserves a chance to enjoy a good life. We adhere to a "no-kill" philosophy.

GLWR was created in an effort to support & provide for the rescue, recovery, care, rehabilitation & re-homing of Weims in need across the Great Lakes region. No one individual is GLWR...we came together to form a collective & collaborative organization with our sole purpose being to assist Weims in need. We work with the various networks of shelters and containment facilities in several states as well as accept owner relinquishments. We exist solely on the generous donations of those who love these majestic "grey ghosts" as much as we do & the fund raising efforts of our very talented and energetic group. All funds received are used to support the vet care & other essential expenses necessary in the daily care of the dogs.

We believe in doing everything possible to help a dog make the transition to their forever home. We are here for the Weims & the Weims alone...our reward lies not in the accolades of being "rescuers" but in the gratitude we see in the bright, loving eyes of one of our Weims as they move onto their forever home... dogs that were once sad, dejected, & without hope that now have a chance to experience the love and warmth of a family that will truly love and care for them.
