| DUE TO SAFETY AND PRIVACY CONCERNS MOST OF OUR PETS CAN NOT BE POSTED. We have lots of hurricane Katrina animals, many are ready for adoption. In early 2002, the Road Home Animal Rescue created Tennessee's first and only shelter designed to specifically aid the animal victims of domestic violence. Since a battered spouse is less likely to leave an abusive environment if he / she has to leave the pets behind, it was important to give these victims a safe, temporary solution for the refuge and rehabilitation of their cats and dogs. Womens centers do not allow animals to stay. The Safe Haven Program places the animal in an undisclosed site and will provide it with any necessary medical care, physical therapy, etc. This is a confidential program intended to provide the animal with as much security as a human shelter would offer to women and children. Road Home now operates in all of (by referal,) Tennessee and maintains a park like sanctuary for these abused animals. Road Home has provided services for over 1000 animals and has never denied services to a Tennessee domestic violence victim. |
