Ivy's Story...
  • Ivy is an 8-9 year old female. She was abandoned at a high-kill shelter in OH. Her owners didn’t have any use for her any longer.
  • She is as sweet as can be. Ivy never meets a stranger. She greets everyone with a wagging tail and wiggly butt. She is happy, happy, happy. She smiles from ear to ear most all of the time.
  • Don’t let Ivy’s age fool you. As you probably know, this is PRIME TIME for a GSP. Ivy loves to run and play. She has an incredible amount of stamina. But, true to the beauty of this age range in a GSP, she calms down nicely after exercise, and is happy on her dog bed (or your lap).
  • Ivy loves playing with toys. She loves to pull as many toys out of the toy box as possible. She plays with one, goes to get another, and so on, and before long, there are 10 toys out. She happily goes from toy to toy, playing with them, then moving along to the next one in line. All the while, her tail never stops wagging!
  • Ivy absolutely loves riding in the car. She will hop inside as soon as the door is open. She will also jump up with grace and ease into any visible truck bed (if the gate is down). Her foster family takes her on rides in the Polaris Ranger, and she puts her head on the driver’s shoulder and takes it all in. She is a calm and happy passenger.
  • Ivy is being fostered with several foster brothers and sisters of varying ages. She gets along with all of them, but she is definitely a leader. She is happiest when she gets to make the rules and be the boss. Therefore, she would do best with a more submissive canine companion. She would also probably be just fine as an only dog, as she doesn’t seem to “need” another dog around to be happy. She usually runs off exploring the yard on her own, and seems to have her own agenda, so she would likely be very happy as a Lone Ranger.
  • Ivy seems to have a strong hunting instinct. Therefore, a home without cats would probably be best. However, with an experienced family, she could likely be trained to ignore a cat. She has made strides in that area in her foster home. But, not every family is able to invest time in training a GSP to live harmoniously with a cat, which is understandable. However, her foster mom does think Ivy would be highly trainable with regard to living with a cat.
  • Ivy has not been around children in her foster home, but based on her incredibly positive interaction with every human she meets, her foster mom cannot imagine that Ivy would ever meet a human she didn’t love. However, since she has not been observed around small children, a home with older children would be best.
  • Ivy is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and recently had her teeth cleaned (she has sparkly, pearly whites). She is being fostered in OH near the WV border. Transport can be arranged to her adoptive family.

    About Our Rescue Group...
The Mid-Atlantic GSP Rescue group covers the state of Maryland, Virginia and surrounding areas. We are a 501c3 non profit rescue dedicated to finding homes for German Shorthaired Pointers who have become homeless by no fault of their own. These rescues could be from animal shelters or turned in by owners. We take care of their needs on arrival and then place them in permanent loving homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, or in doing foster work for us, please e-mail us at Rescue E-Mail
Mid-Atlantic GSP Rescue, Inc is a 501c3 organization and your contribution is tax deductible. We will mail you a receipt for your donation.
    Our Adoption Process...
People often ask us what the process is for adopting a GSP Rescue. So we thought we would list it here to answer some common questions.

First, every adopter must complete the Adoption Application listed on the page. This helps us to learn more about the adopter and to help match dogs to people.

Once an adopter is interested in a particular dog, a homecheck is performed. We only do them after there is specific interest because many times people will choose another breed or adopt from the shelter and we are a small rescue group handling a fairly large area. We don't want to drive all over doing homechecks just to do them when many times they aren't necessary.

Once the homecheck is complete the adopter can meet the dog if that wasn't done during the homecheck. Sometimes another volunteer is closer than the one who is fostering the dog the adopter is interested in. So it may not be the fosterer who performs the homecheck.

Almost always fencing is a requirement for a rescue dog. Most have had little to no training, yet they need exercise and a fenced yard is most practical. An untrained dog can simply dart off without proper containment.

We are not here to move dogs from A to B, we are here to help people and dogs find the right matches for a lifetime committment.

Rescue microchips each dog to the rescue and after a dog is adopted the new owner is added as a contact on the chip registration. The chip database allows us to add as many names as you would like, so if you'd like more contacts than the rescue and you, we will happily add those.
