Riley's Story...
Meet Riley, the tiny dog with the huge personality. At 10 pounds and almost 10 years old, this quirky and boisterous Chihuahua could score a perfect 10 if he finds the right home. Earlier this year, Riley’s owner had to go into a seniors’ home and couldn’t bring him long (even though Riley will soon be a senior himself!) Luckily, the little dog found himself in the loving care of Kiko Dog Rescue and Adoptions. Don’t let Riley’s elder status fool you. This sprightly boy has a zest for life and personality in spades. When he first arrived at Kiko, he was quite the little Romeo. Getting fixed has quelled his amorous tendencies but certainly not his joie de vivre! Riley has some hilariously endearing qualities, such as sleeping under his dog bed every night. He also has an interesting relationship with stairs — it is not certain whether he dislikes them or simply sees stairs as a timed obstacle course. Whichever, he will only ascend the stairs at a lightning quick pace. He will do just about anything to get cuddled and employs all manner of ridiculous attention-getting antics. It is hard to believe that when he first arrived at his foster home it took seven whole months before he was able to trust someone enough to give them a lick. Riley’s larger-than-life character is most obvious in his vocal nature. While he lets you know when he is happy, he is also sure to let you know when he’s not. Riley will growl when he’s unhappy and sometimes barks when you leave the room or if another dog steals one of his spots. Riley can be calm when left home alone, but he will bark when he hears noises. He doesn’t need a lot of exercise and can do his business outside, or inside on pads. He is aloof with other dogs and cats but can coexist peacefully with them, and is best suited to live in a family with children over the age of eight. Kiko’s adage is “because for every dog there is a perfect home,” and for one home, Riley will be the perfect dog.

About Our Rescue Group...
Kiko Dog Rescue and Adoptions is a small non-profit rescue group located west of Montreal near the Quebec/Ontario border and is named after a little black Pug rescued from a puppy mill. We are dedicated to helping dogs that have found themselves homeless, whether they are from a pound, puppy mill or a home surrender, by placing them in the loving forever homes they so deserve. All dogs that come into our rescue receive whatever veterinary care they require, including everything from dentistry to surgery to help correct an uncomfortable or painful medical condition. In many cases, the adoption fee is not enough to cover a dog's vet bill. If you would like to help us by making a donation towards our vet bill, please click on the Paypal button. Thank you!

Our dogs are not kept at a shelter. We rely on the generosity of foster families. If you are not ready for a permanent adoption and would like to consider fostering on a temporary basis, please contact us for more information. Food and veterinary care is provided by Kiko—all you need to provide is a warm loving haven.

Our Adoption Process...
If you are interested in adopting a Kiko dog, please e-mail us. You will be asked to complete an adoption application so that we can get to know you better. A home visit is also mandatory, often with the dog that interests you. Our adoption fee is $400 and all our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, defleaed, dewormed*, vaccinated, sterilized and also tested for heartworm and lyme disease. *Please note that puppies adopted at a young age may require ongoing deworming for up to six months. Although this is a relatively inexpensive treatment, Kiko is unable to cover this and will only take care of deworming while the puppy is under the care of the rescue.
