Jules's Info...
| Breed: | English Setter/Vizsla Mix | Color: | White - With Red, Golden, Orange Or Chestnut | Age: | Adult |
| Size: | Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg) | Sex: | Female | ID#: | 2009-685KY |
I am already spayed, housetrained, purebred, in need of an experienced adopter, up to date with shots, good with dogs, and good with cats.
We think it would be in Jules' best interest to find a new foster home. The ideal candidate would be a single woman that is VERY outgoing! Jules needs her dog park romps and is genius on a hike. After her botched adoption--she is afraid of men and would need time to adjust to a new home. If you are looking for a dog that will get you out and about, please call Lisa at 630-694-1359 to interview for Jules' new best friend.
9-30-10 Some Pointers out of Miller's lines are quite the swimmers--Jules is no exception!! She is an amazing swimmer :O).
7-19-10 Chicagoland is VERY dog friendly. About 15 minutes from IBR HQ is one of the greatest dog parks--East Branch Dog training. This is BIRDDOG HEAVEN. Dantes, Rosa, Rory, Lani and Jules made their debuts there recently and enjoyed every minute of it. Take a look at their album on Facebook .
Here is a very fun romping, splashing Youtube video of Dantes, Rosa and Jules.
I need active outgoing adopters for these amazing dogs. Pointer and Setter= FUN! I am addicted to their joyfulness and enthusiasm.
5-24-10 Miss Jules is doing GREAT in her new foster home. Her best friend and bo hunk is Eddie- a Setter mix that was adopted last fall. Latest blood work shows Jules has recovered from her Rocky Mountain spotted fever--but the damage is done. While her confidence is getting better--she is not the same bold hunting machine I ran in horse back field trials a year ago. She is still cuddly and affectionate--but she is guarded and a bit fearful of new people. She is at her happiest at the dog park in Wauconda, IL. My wish for her would to be adopted by someone in the area that could take her for weekly runs at that park as she feels quite safe there. She is an amazing athelete and still enjoys running and sight pointing birds. She also needs to be able to cuddle on the couch and sleep in bed!

02-14-2010: Jules is a beautiful Lemon and White American Field bred English Pointer estimated to be about 2 years old. Jules is petite, wiggly and very very cute and full of personality when she feels safe. We do feel that she suffered extreme abuse by whoever owned her in Kentucky-- but overcoming her Lyme disease really helped her come along last Spring.
Sadly her first adoption did not work out and she came back to us with Rocky Mountain spotted fever--not good. She had shut down for her male adopter and was afraid to run off leash too. She does need a femine touch as she seems to respond more to women and we will be looking for a female patient adopter next time around.
As a BIG FAT FYI--Jules has been bred to run HUGE off leash--up to several hundred yards or more. She is most likely out of Ferrel Miller's assembly line of White Pointers bred at his kennel in Paducah, KY. The 17 tatooed in her ear was probably to help identify one pup from another. GOOGLE Miller's On Line, Miller's White Powder or Miller's Silver Bullet.
These American Field bred Pointers have been bred to run very independant of their handlers and most are run in field trials off of a horse. Last year when I ran Jules in her first field trial--she was quite comfortable working for me from horseback. She is not going to be a close working hunting dog--ever. She is a free spirit and whoever is lucky enough to adopt her--will need to know that her comfort zone is WAY OUT YONDER!!!
With that in mind--as big as she can cast out--she always watches for me. She is also perfect at the dog park. She is special little dog and a little princess deserving of a wondeful home.
We are in no rush to adopt her out :O).
This dog will need a safe fenced in yard and a non-smoking home.
Due to the fact that many of our dogs have come from shelters or abuse or neglect situations, and unless we have tested these dogs on upland birds and feel they are confident and ready to work as a hunter with families where they will be trained with kindness and patience, we will only adopt to pet homes.
All adoptions include vaccinations, deworming, microchips, spaying or neutering, collar, leash and an information adoption packet. All IBR dogs are crate trained, housebroken, socialized with other dogs and loved on by their human foster parents. Adoption fees are used to cover vetting expenses and special need dogs' vetting care.
If you are interested in adopting this pet through our rescue organization, please go to the Adopting A Friend section to read about our pre-adoption policies and vetting protocols.
Some Ways You Can Save A Life
Become an IBR foster home and help give a rescued dog or puppy a second chance at a new happy life. The work and dedication of the current IBR foster families can be seen by clicking HERE! You are not just adopting a dog--you are adopting a birddog family!
Make a donation or sponsor a homeless dog. Illinois Birddog Rescue has always prided itself in not turning away any sick and injured dogs; animals that most shelters would have euthanized. We have saved many dogs with heartworm, tick borne illnesses, broken legs, missing legs, blind dogs, a new deaf puppy, dogs suffering from Parvo and especially senior dogs that may need expensive health care to help them get ready for adoption. In February of 2006, in one weekend, we brought in 20+ dogs from the Boat Mountain Tragedy, and that depleted our emergency funds. Visit the IBR Home Page and browse our new online store to find out the many ways you can shop for the dog lovers in your life while helping homeless birddogs. We also have a dedicated volunteer busy creating calendars, mugs and T-shirts at our Café Press fundraising web site.

iSearch.iGive.com is a fun and easy way to raise money while searching the internet. The donation is $0.01 per qualified search (no limits) and if you are logged in as an iGive.com member (membership to use iSearch is free and optional) you can keep track of your individual contributions through searching and shopping. $0.01 per search may not seem like much, but with our combined efforts it can add up very quickly and make a difference for our rescued dogs. iSearch.iGive.com is powered by Yahoo! search engine. Who We Are...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our Mission Statement
It is our mission to provide a temporary safe haven and rehabilitation for field bred English Pointers and English Setters found homeless in shelters. In an effort to find the dogs homes, we also hope to educate the public on dog health and training. We also work to dispel such myths as “a neutered dog won’t hunt” and “you ruin a hunting dog by letting him live in the house.”
About IBR
Illinois Birddog Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to saving, transporting, vetting, fostering, and adopting homeless American Field-bred English Pointers and English Setters - a group of canines commonly known as BIRDDOGS. We are funded solely from adoption fees and donations. Since our slow beginning in October of 2001, we have placed over 500 dogs and puppies.
Most of our rescue dogs are in foster care in the Chicagoland area with a wonderful group of volunteers who dedicate their free time and energy to help the dogs get ready for their forever homes. While in foster care, the rescues live in a home and are socialized with other dogs, people, children, and cat tested if possible. To assure that they will make good house pets, our rescues are also taught basic manners, are housebroken and crate trained. Unfortunately many of the rescues that come in have been abused or are in poor health. We take care of any medical issues and give these dogs lots of TLC.
On occasion we test the dogs hunting instinct using planted pigeons or quail to see if they have any scent pointing ability. Seeing one of our birddogs pointing a bird by scent alone is a beautiful thing. We have successfully adopted out our dogs to hunters as long as they are spoiled rotten house pets first.
While our organization focuses on pointers and setters, we also work in conjunction with other birddog groups across the country who save Brittanys, German Short-haired Pointers, and Setters by helping them transport their homeless hunters to safety.
Illinois Birddog Rescue, Inc. requires all of our dogs to be placed first and foremost as pets. We will place dogs into hunting homes, but they must live indoors as part of the family. We also require fenced in yards for all of our purebred dogs so that they may self-exercise safely.
All of our foster homes give the rescue dogs lots of TLC. While in foster care our dogs will be:
socialized with other dogs, people, and children
cat tested if possible
crate trained and housebroken
evaluated for hunting potential by scent pointing planted game birds
We take great pride in making sure all of our rescue dogs are healthy before being adopted. All of our rescues will have been:
spayed or neutered
tested for heartworm and treated if necessary
protected from parvo/distemper and vaccinated for rabies
de-wormed
microchipped
We ask for a $325 non-negotiable adoption fee for our adult dogs and $375 for all dogs less than one year of age.
When adopting one of our rescues, we want to make sure both you and the dog will be a good match. Here's how our procedure works:
Complete and submit the online adoption application
Your application will be reviewed by all board members and the foster care provider.
You will receive a call for a phone interview
If approved, we will then arrange for you to speak at length with the foster care provider and meet the dog you are interested in.
A home check will be done to assure the safety of the rescue dog in its new home environment. Because of the intense hunting instincts these dogs posess, we require their forever homes to have safe fenced in yards.
Because we want to make sure our dogs live long healthy, happy lives, we will only place our dogs into non-smoking homes.
At the time of adoption, the fee will be collected and an adoption contract signed.
In the weeks following the adoption a member of our group will contact you and do a follow-up obedience or dietary home visit, if needed. We want to make sure you and your new family member are completely happy and healthy!
Our foster home network is based out of Chicago- but we have additional foster homes in Champaign and Springfield, IL. We also have foster homes in St. Paul, MN, Madison and Lake Geneva, WI, Indianspolis, IN, and Columbus, OH.
