Attention all big dog lovers! Amos was bought as a puppy at 8 weeks old and promptly put on a chain in the back yard. Many attempts were made by the rescue to buy him from his owners over the years, but they said that they 'loved' him and so could not sell him. Finally, when Amos suffered a neck wound that became horribly infected, they decided to give him to the rescue as they could not afford treatment for the wound. With 3 years of his life wasted on a chain behind him, Amos is loving life and freedom! Amos is amazingly smart for a dog who was never trained, and mastered the sit command in 15 minutes. We are working on heel and give paw. Although he is 118lbs, he does not pull hard on his leash.
Because he lived his life on a chain, he is learning about everyday things that happen in a house. He barks at things he doesn't know or understand, like the printer when it is printing. With some comfort and reassurance, he calms down. He loves to play, and loves toys, something that he never had before. He is certainly making up for lost time.
Due to being chained for 3 years with no veterinary care, Amos is Heartworm Positive. We are currently raising the money to treat him, however, the drug that is used for treatment is currently on indefinite back order. Once it becomes available again, we will start his treatment. If you would be interested in fostering or adopting this lovable, goofy, deserving fella, fill out an application now! Because he is HW +, if you are interested in adopting Amos and are approved, we will be enforcing 'foster to adopt' which means that he will live with you until his treatment and HW re-testing is over, and then official adoption paperwork can be completed.
Can you find it in your heart to give this gentle giant the home he has wanted for 3 long years?
