AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION Available For The Senior For Senior Program Female Stray at Austin Shelter Black and White Spayed Up to date on Rabies, Bordatella, and 7 in 1 shots Heartworm/lyme/erlichia negative Her adoption fee will be 275$ This sweet little girl was picked up by Pug rescue in Austin and I was contacted to take her.
Here is a remark from her foster home..
Gertie...
Miss Gertie is a precious old girl. Given her age, she likes her rest - it's not unusual for her to sleep away a good portion of the day. But she's got some spunk in her too - she'll gallop around the back yard with the other dogs, or romp through the living room just to hear her nails clack on the hard wood floors! Gertie occasionally will make the motions to play with the other dogs - she *tries* to be an alpha dog...but it's kind of a half-hearted attempt! She likes to try to herd the other dogs - kind of sidles up sideways towards them and leans into them to get them to move in the direction she wants. It's funny to watch! In general, she's mild mannered, and gets along just fine with all of the dogs she's met. And she's ignored the cat.
Miss Gertie LOVES to cuddle on the couch or bed and be kept warm. She's got lots of kisses to give, if you're willing to receive them...but she's not pushy. If you prefer to keep dog lips off of your own, she can accomodate that too.
Gertie is not a barker or a yapper. She reserves her voice to let you know when she's ready to come in from outdoors, or to let the other dogs know when she's up to play. But she doesn't just bark for the heck of it. Instead, she stomps. If she wants your attention, she'll stand in front of you and stomp her front feet. This seems to work for it - it's such a cute display, it is hard to resist picking her up!
If you're looking for a quiet companion who doesn't need much in the way of entertainment or intense attention, then Gertrude's the girl for you. Once you've rubbed her fat belly, she's a friend for life!
UPDATE 5 1/15/08 - Per Danielle, Gertie's foster momma - Well, our little old lady has got some heart problems. Ever since her 'Big Adventure', Gertie's breathing has been sounding more raspy and rattling. This morning, she had what I thought was a seizure - she went stiff for a couple seconds, and then limp and her bladder emptied all over the bed and my sleeping husband! Poor girl! We got her up to Dr. Cindy this afternoon, and the xrays showed an enlarged heart and congestion in her chest. We're starting her on some Lasix and Enalapril to see if that helps. Dr. Cindy did an ECG and found that there are some times when her little heart is just forgetting to *fire* and that may account for the 'seizure' activity.
Despite her awful breathing, Gertie's energy level hasn't waned...in fact, she's seemed more active. She romps around like a nut with the pug puppy, and lets everyone know she's still in charge of any chew toys around. She seems happy and content still, so I hope this medicine will help give her a continued good quality of life for as long as she's got. She's a precious little girl. I told Wanda that it just KILLS me the way Gertie has been hacking and coughing and wheezing ALL weekend....and her breathing was just perfect today when we saw the doctor. It's like taking your car to the mechanic!

We are a small, dedicated group of Boston Terrier-loving volunteers based in North Texas. While we are currently awaiting our 501(c)3 status, we're busy rescuing, training, transporting, vetting, coordinating and fundraising. All for the love of our chosen breed, the Boston Terrier.
All Bostons that come into ABTR are fully vetted, heartworm checked, spayed/neutered and lived with to ensure a good fit into a new home. We never turn away a Boston in need.
ALL Bostons deserve a loving home. We accept all Bostons, regardless of age or health. (We will not accept dogs that exhibit human aggression or are excessively dog aggressive.)
Please note that the adoption process begins with an adoption application. Incomplete apps will not be considered.
We are not a shelter and do not have visiting hours. All our Bostons are fostered in loving private homes.
All adoptions require an adoption fee.
Payment options include cash, money order, cashiers check or paypal.
ABTR is a non-profit rescue organization. All fees and donations are applied to Boston Terriers in need.
We do not do adoption events. We feel that exposes the dogs to too much stress. Our adopters meet our dogs after they have completed the adoption application and are approved to adopt. This saves us much time and effort that can be spent on caring for the dogs. Plus that way they meet the dogs that are CURRENTLY available for adoption and are not dissapointed because a dog they were interested in has been adopted to someone else who was approved before they were.
Our Adoption Process...
Adoption application must be completed.
We check vet and personal references.
A home visit is conducted.
Then Wanda calls and speaks to you about all the dogs CURRENTLY available that are a suitable match for your family. A decision is made about who is most suitable. Then you sign the adoption agreement, pay the adoption fees, and adopt the dog.
We do transport out of state at the adopter's expense in addition to the adoption fee. Airfare is $175 plus crate and health certificate $60 plus adoption fee.
Adoption fees vary depending upon costs of vetting and age of dog. Puppies under 6 months are $400 as they are the most desired of all the dogs and they help pay the vet bills on the older dogs.
We do have a senior for senior program for persons over 70 wanting to adopt a dog over 9.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
ABTR will proudly ship a dog via airline to anywhere in the US or Canada.. at the adopter's expense in addition to the adoption fee. Airfare is $215 plus crate and health certificate $85 plus adoption fee
