Cookie's story...
UPDATE: First of all, Cookie is doing great - she is thriving in her foster home and her foster parents are IN LOVE with this sweet girl because she is just such an incredible little dog with a HUGE spirit. We found out this week that Cookie has a medical disorder called Cushing's Disease. But please don't let this discourage you from considering adopting Cookie. An effective new medication has been developed that works great and allows dogs with Cushings to live long, healthy and very happy lives! The medication is a tiny capsule that goes into Cookie's food once a day (she doesn't even know it's there and just snarfs it right up with her dinner - administering meds has never been so easy!). At around $30.00 a month it is a very affordable treatment. Cookie and the love of her life, Bubba, were redlisted dogs at the east valley shelter (redlisted means they were on the short list to be killed). They were owner surrenders - probably owned by a backyard breeder who used them to make puppies for profit for years and years and then just abandoned them to an almost certain death at the local shelter once they were no longer financially productive (with so many younger, bouncier dogs at the shelter, how could a frightened old girl like Cookie compete?). Cookie is shy when she first meets people but it doesn't take her long to warm up! She loves to have her head and butt scratched and wants little more than some kind words and a soft, warm place to sleep. This girl has had a long and probably hard life as a puppy making 'machine' - we know she deserves to live a fun-filled and pampered life now that she's retired. After all they've been through there's no way we'd consider separating Cookie and her man Bubba - they are a package deal. For more info please contact Jayna: stustuzim@aol.com or 818-830-8555 thanks!
