sophie is one of the dogs that was found by volunteers on sepulveda blvd. in the san fernando valley. these dogs were living on the street, eating garbage, and fending for themselves! sophie was covered in what smelled like raw sewage when she was rescued. and boy, when the volunteers who spotted her stopped to rescue her she was ready to go and have a bath! she tried to jump up into their vehicle as soon as they opened the door and she was thrilled when the soap and water were gently massaged into her coat. after she was found (and bathed) she was relinquished to la animal services so that her owner might be able to find her. amazingly, an owner was found but, horrifically, she never when to the shelter to get her poor dogs!!!! so sophie and her basset buddy had to sit for weeks in a tiny, wet, crowded kennel with two other dogs. when she was finally sprung from doggie jail sophie had an upper respitory infection, a bite wound and she, once again, smelled horrible because the male dogs she was housed with kept 'marking' her with urine. once she was pulled out of the shelter a home was found for sophie rather quickly. however, due to the fact that the lady who adopted her was just too emotionally overwhelmed to handle another dog (she already had two) sophie came back to us. she is now hoping that after all she has been through that she can find a real, honest to goodness, forever home that will cherish and spoil her in the manner that she richly deserves. sophie is an older dog who has a bit of a weight issue so she will need to be on a low-calorie diet. other than some mild arthritis in her hips she is in decent condidtion and would love to be with a mellow person or a perhaps a couple who like to go for casual walks and who enjoy plenty of mellow time. she would probably be just fine being an only dog but if she might like to have a companion dog as long as the other dog had good doggie manners. sophie is housetrained and has not had even a single accident in her foster home! she is a mellow kind of girl who really just needs a loving owner who can give her with plenty of ear rubs and sweet words. she isn't at all demanding and appreciates the simple things in dog life like a safe place to sleep and a low-calorie dog-cookie now and again. if sophie sounds like your kind of dog and you are interested in finding out how you can adopt her please contact jayna zimmelman: stustuzim@aol.com or call 818-830-8555
