Meet Kato. Kato is about one of the most gorgeous dogs we've seen, in our opinion. Of course we know what a lover he is too so that helps :)

Kato is an absolutely wonderful dog. He's most likely an American Bulldog or possibly and Old English Bulldogge, but either way he's on the smaller side for his breed. Kato is a about 75 lbs.

Kato is about 3 years old now and has been in rescue for over a year. He started out a little rough, but he's become a very stable, very well behaved and very nice dog all around. Kato has always been great with other dogs, male or female. He's likes to play hard, but is never aggressive, though he will do best with an active, playful dog his own size to live with. He'd love to have a friendly female companion that can keep up with him and actually does well with more dominant females.

Kato knows some basic commands and has worked very hard on his focus skills and his leash handling. He is fantastic out on walks and a real pleasure to take out. He's great with everyone he meets, dogs, kids... and he will stick right by your side and listen beautifully. He's a totally people focused dog that loves to learn. His training time has become a highlight of his day. He loves it!

In the year that Kato has been in foster care he's been in training and working through some issues with resource guarding. This means he does not like to share his food or any high value treats like bones. Not with other dogs or people. He came into rescue very underweight so we believe there were times when he didn't get enough food and so this has become a real issue for him. He's insecure about having enough. He's come a very long way and can even drop his bones now, but he needs ongoing work with his food and while this is very manageable with adults and teenage children, Kato wil never be a dog that can live with small children. A home with children over 14 is a must. Kato is very loving and sweet with children otherwise and would be fine when family and friends visit and he's met and interacting with many children and he just loves them. But resource guarding is something children don't always understand and so a dog like Kato cannot interact with children while eating or enjoying special treats.

For the right family that can provide Kato a lot of love and exercise and most importantly structure and discipline and make him a real part of the family he will be a wonderful addition. He is really a spectacular dog. He's got a playful side that is hard to beat and his affectionate nature is irresistable.
