Trinka's story...
Trinka is 3.5 years old and roughly 60 pounds. If you are looking for sweet and petite, Trinka might be your girl. Her ideal home would be one that accepts her for who she is and understands her limitations. She is a homebody, loves being a housedog and is quite comfy on the furniture as one can see from her pictures.

Trinka is a submissive type female who does well with other dogs her size or larger. She actually needs the company of other dogs to feel secure. She has a strong prey drive and will chase just about anything that moves fast. During the summer time being squirted with the hosepipe and splashing in her baby pool is her favorite game! She is not suitable for a home with young children (they scare her), cats or small dogs.

Trinka has mild food allergies which causes itchy ears and itchy paws. The food that has worked well to keep this in remission is by Wellness - Simple Food Solutions Venison formula. It's not much more expensive than any other high quality pet food.

Trinka was taken into rescue on Mother's Day 2004 along with ther littermates, Rex and Macy (who have already been adopted). The breeder couldn't "get rid" of all the puppies and called animal control to pick them up. They were 6 weeks old and living under a porch. When they would not come out to the AC officer, he put a snare pole around their little necks and drug them out. Then he took them to an overcrowded shelter and all three put together in a tiny cage. How scary is that? In spite of her start in life, Trinka has begun to overcome some of her insecurities. She's still unsure in new situations, leary of men and children but is adoptable to a special home.We believe that home is out there somewhere.

About Our Rescue Group...
German Shepherd Rescue of Central Alabama is a private 501(c) (3) non-profit rescue organization. We rescue German Shepherds out of shelters and from abusive situations. We take in abandoned and stray dogs, and we take owner surrenders as space allows. All dogs are neutered or spayed, heartworm free, and up-to-date on shots before they are placed in their forever home. These dogs are kept in private homes and will be shown by appointment only. We do our best to help out any German Shepherd dog in need (primarily in the state of Alabama); unfortunately, we have limited space, and it takes time and money to get some of these babies up to good health and full adoption status. We also help people who are having problems with their German Shepherds. We would like to help owners work through the problems rather than have to give their dog up.

The specific purpose of our organization is the prevention of cruelty to animals by:

Rescuing German Shepherd Dogs from life threatening situations at animal shelters and elsewhere;
Finding German Shepherd Dogs permanent loving homes with qualified owners;
Working cooperatively with animal shelters and other rescue groups in the community toward our common goals of saving dogs lives and reducing pet overpopulation;
Educating the public about the advantages of adopting dogs from shelters and rescue organizations, and about the need for spaying and neutering dogs; and
Educating owners and prospective owners of German Shepherds Dogs about their proper care and training, and about other aspects of the breed

Come Meet Our Pets...
All of our dogs reside in private homes. We will only show dogs by appointment and to approved applicants.
Our Adoption Process...
The first step in adopting a dog from GSRCA is to submit an adoption application. We can mail one to you via the US postal service or an online form may be found on our website. www.gsdcentral.petfinder.com The link to the applications is http://members.petfinder.org/~AL80/application2.html
We ask that the form be filled out completely. We check references and perform a pre- adoption home visit for each applicant. If all criteria are met for adoption, an appointment will be set up to view the dog you are interested in. Please note: It is our goal to place a dog ONCE, therefore we will advise applicants on the best dog match for your personality and lifestyle. The dogs well being is our main priority in the adoption process. We request a $350 adoption fee. A binding adoption contract is signed. Adoption a dog from GSRCA means that we serve to support you for the life of the adoption.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
All of Alabama and some surrounding states when possible.
