Delaware SPCA's Adoption Process

1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

It all starts with a visit to our Stanton shelter. Check out our animals and our staff can give you all the guidance you need.

2. Submit Application

The questionnaire will help us learn more about you so that we can help match you with the perfect pet.

3. Meet the Pet

Meet & Greet! We strongly prefer all members of your household to be present at the meet-and-greet.

4. Approve Application

5. Sign Adoption Contract

6. Pay Fee

7. Take the Pet Home

At the Delaware SPCA we employ a matchmaking approach to adoptions. This means we approve adopters based on the best fit for the animal and the family. If multiple families are being considered for the same animal, we will use our discretion to find the best fit. If the animal you are interested in has been adopted by another family, we would love to introduce you to another fabulous animal!

Please review our full adoption requirements at delspca.org/adoption-process to make sure you have the paperwork needed to adopt before coming to the shelter.

We receive no government funding. Delaware SPCA is a private nonprofit organization that depends on local donors and volunteers to continue our efforts to eliminate animal abuse, homelessness, and neglect.
