Our shelter services the south Chicagoland area. We adopt animals region wide, as adopters have come to us from Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana.

South Suburban Humane Society - Homewood Adoption Center's Adoption Process

We want to make the process of adopting a new pet as stress-free as possible.
Visit the shelter during adoptions hours just to look around. If you see a dog or cat you may want to take home, let one of our adoptions counselors know and we'll have you fill out a brief application and talk over the adoption process and details of the pet. Most pets go home the same day!
* Please make sure to bring a valid photo I.D.
* Although not required, family members and pets are encouraged to visit the shelter to meet a potential new pet

About South Suburban Humane Society - Homewood Adoption Center

The SSHS Homewood Adoption Center house house 30 dogs and 5 cats for adoption, nearly doubling the capacity of the SSHS for dog space. The HAC will help SSHS save 500-800 more pets' lives per year!!
