Rescue FAQs

Ugly Mutts Dog Rescue is based in Hamilton, Ontario with foster homes throughout Southern Ontario. We are run entirely by volunteers, with the aid of a very caring community of pet-loving supporters. Homeless pets come from a variety of pounds and shelters, and other rescue affiliates.

Ugly Mutts also offers a safe and compassionate alternative to people who find themselves in the unfortunate position of needing a new home for their pet.

Our loving foster families come from all walks of life, and fully open their hearts and their homes to give temporary sanctuary to homeless pets. They love and care for the pets as their own, until such time that they can be matched with committed, loving, adopters.

Our mission is to save as many lives as possible, to treat the pets are our own while in our care, and to ensure they are adopted to committed loving families who will be able to meet the specific needs of the pet they are adopting, as well as ensuring the specific pet will fulfill the wants and desires of the adoptive family as a pet.

Ugly Mutts Dog Rescue works with pounds, shelters, private pet owners and other like minded rescue groups to coordinate, rescue and provide loving foster care to pets in need until they are placed in suitable, loving new homes. Ugly Mutts operates and maintains foster homes throughout Southern Ontario.

Additional adoption info

The adoption process for each of the dogs is done on an individual basis. We have no set criteria as each dog has individual needs and our primary concern is to ensure that not only will the adoptive family have the means necessary to care for the pet but that the dog will meet the wants and desires of the adoptive family, as a pet.

In this regard, we place less importance on the type of home you live in, and more on exactly why you want to adopt a dog and what your plans are in caring for the pet.

We do care passionately about our dogs however, we care just as much about the people and ensuring that whatever dog they adopt is in fact a good choice for their situation.

You must submit an application to be considered as a potential adopter. And only approved adopters are invited to meet the pet in person. There is no commitment to adopt by either yourself or Ugly Mutts until it is mutually agreed that the specific pet is a good choice for your situation.

The application can be found on our main website at http://www.uglymuttsdogrescue.com

We do not adopt on a first come, first served basis and we do not hold dogs without a signed commitment from the adopter.

We do reserve the right to refuse any adopter for whatever reason. Visiting a specific dog is done by appointment only and donations requested for each pet may vary.
