4.

Sign Adoption Contract

An adoption contract is standard for all shelters & rescues and makes the adoption official and binding.

5.

Take the Pet Home

After spay or neuter surgery, your new pet can go home with you!

Additional adoption info

Because there is a constant flow of animals in and out of the shelter, it's nearly impossible for us to keep all adoption websites and social media pages up to date! We do try to get every pet online as soon as they're available for adoption but there are always dogs & cats at the shelter who aren't online yet. We encourage you to visit the shelter for a larger selection of pets!

ANIMALS FROM THIS SHELTER ARE REQUIRED TO BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED ONCE AGE APPROPRIATE. All available pets are up to date on all vaccinations.

FOR RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS:
We are fortunate to be able to place some of our pets with rescue groups who have fosters and more local adopters than we have in our area. New rescue partners are screened to ensure that they are reputable and will only adopt animals to responsible, caring pet owners. If you are with a rescue organization and are interested in one of our animals, or interested in becoming a partner, please email us.

About Lenoir County SPCA

The Lenoir County SPCA is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization located in Kinston, NC. We are run by a non-profit organization instead of the county's animal control department. Our shelter annually accepts approximately 2,500 stray, neglected, abused or surrendered animals from Lenoir County, North Carolina and we do not limit this intake based on health, temperament or age.

We receive only partial funding for shelter operations from Kinston/Lenoir County, leaving us with a significant deficit every month. The remaining expenses are paid by private donors and any profit earned from our Second Chances Thrift Store.

To help save additional animals, our volunteers participate in a coordinated Rescue Program to transport our shelter animals to reputable rescue organizations in NC and beyond!

Our small shelter receives an average of 8 new homeless pets every day. Please spay & neuter your pets!

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
